Instructional Leadership—Lead campus administrators in creating an instructional environment focusing on student achievement through the implementation of research-based strategies designed to provide equity and reduce learning gaps. Continually investigate opportunities for students to expand educational options; review course schedule configuration to increase student options.
Challenge: Declining classroom engagement and instructional focus.
Action: Spearheaded Flipped Classroom and Student Centered Instruction initiatives.
Result: Stopped decline in targeted areas: 15% reduction in student failure; 85% increase in student classroom participation; 20% rise in program implementation by core staff.
Challenge: Lack of cohesive, aligned instruction across curricular subject areas.
Action: Partnered with curriculum and instruction department to create and implement collaborative instructional units linking relevant content.
Result: Generated a 25% increase in lesson alignment following the consolidation of instructional units.
Challenge: Low student participation in dual credit early college courses and utilization of virtual learning opportunities.
Action: Redesigned course schedule to increase flexibility in class choice.
Result: Boosted early college enrollment by 75%; created a 100% rise in virtual learning participation. Strategic Leadership—Provide continuity between district, campus and classroom goals critical to the alignment and linkage across educational levels. Encourage, empower and provide opportunities for stakeholder input in decision-making to strengthen partnerships and solicit feedback for campus goal creation and evaluation.
Challenge: Lack of staff participation and ownership of campus goal identification and strategic planning to implement coherent, research-based instruction strategies.
Action: Created Professional Learning Teams to provide a vehicle and venue for related staff input.
Result: Improved strategic planning rate to 90% via guided teacher collaboration in core content area Tim Norman—936-***-****—Confidential
Organizational Leadership—Create, implement, and evaluate systems designed to maximize school climate and safety. Reinforce positive choice related to social interaction and classroom management to establish and maintain an environment conducive to instruction—teachers can teach; students can learn.
Challenge: Inconsistent enforcement of a student behavior management system produced increased discipline referrals related to physical altercations and low attendance. Elevated numbers of suspensions, alternative school placements resulted in high rates of lost instruction time.
Action: Implemented a discipline management system and positive attendance incentive program.
Result: Decline in targeted categories: 90% office referrals, 85% physical altercations, 74% in-school suspension, 90% mandatory alternative school placements, 100% expulsions; increased 3% student attendance rate.
Community Leadership—Produce partnerships between staff, parents, students and community to establish a comprehensive student support system.
Challenge: Inability to answer the question, “What’s going on at school?” created a detachment between relevant stakeholders and created a perception of disinterest and lack of concern.
Action: Created and utilized a communication strategy to provide information and engage parents, staff, community members and students in campus decision-making through all available venues: direct mail, media and electronic messaging as well as the creation of a stakeholder focus group.
Result: Newly established focus group created, administered and evaluated a stakeholder survey regarding campus instructional programs. Survey data resulted in recommendations to restructure programs increasing opportunities for improved student achievement. Tim Norman—936-***-****—Confidential
