I am no stranger to starting out at a new shop; not knowing if its the first day at the company I could retire at; or will I just work job to job until we both realize im not the best fit for this company..
this is my best effort to remember all of my previous employers: (painting as well as other types of work)
I have had the pleasure of being a valued member at.. Or the untimely misfortune of being told, “Mike you are an extremely skilled painter. You are just as efficient and certainly more dependable than of my other workers here.. we appreciate all your hard work, so you can finish the week out. But to remain fair to the slower lazier guys on the team, I’m afraid u will need to find work elsewhere.” Keep your head up
As I close in on the halfway point of my 30 year painting career, I sometimes look back and wonder if maybe down the road when I’ve long since clocked out, “permanently” that is.. Will anybody ever look around and say…. “hey look at that place, didn’t that Jablonski guy paint that?”… only to hear “Jablonski who? Never heard of him…but whoever did paint it sure was good at his job.”
That would make all these following jobs that I have listed here completely worthwhile.
some were enjoyable, some were not.
some were lucrative, others were costly.
Some jobs were fun and memorable, while others could be painful and I’d like to forget them.
Work History
Painter, 11/22 to 06/24
Housing authority city of Milwaukee
• entirely residential painting
•low income housing
•cut and roll apartments and single family houses as needed upon eviction, move in or move out, or new construction.
•prep substrates with mud. Then sand and texture as needed. Tape areas and mask off as needed. I performed full unit repaints; down to small touch ups after a much needed repair in a private unit, a common area shared by all tenants, or any other part of the housing authority properties..
•apply finishing touches and clean up as needed to prepare unit for future occupancy.
•biggest takeaway from housing: do your own job and leave work at work. Don’t mix work life with personal life. People you think are friends will not hesitate throwing accusations to save another coworker without a 2nd thought (you will be sacrificed without the chance to explain your side)…
■ I learned a lot working at Housing authority but I would never recommend anybody to work there..

Good Touch Painting East Troy, WI
• I was merely a body to perform basic cut and roll painting on a gigantic 15k sq ft mansion a husband had built for his wife; from the floor to the ceiling she spared no detail.. the home she imagined included an indoor and outdoor pool, a gym, a spa, 2 elevators, 38 different staircases, 6 car attached garage, plus a separate 12k sq ft pole barn, a billiards room, and a 16 seat home theatre…not to mention a master suite that most families could easily call a home.. lastly there was a bdrm for all 10 kids both young and old…just in case they ever stayed during the holidays..
• biggest lesson here; don’t suggest your personal ideas over the customer’s in their dream home…u learn very quickly the customer is always right and they know it..

Moved shipment materials to and from designated areas using lift and hand trucks.
Monitored inventory to maintain sufficient supply levels to meet business and customer needs.
Rejected damaged items, recorded shortages and corresponded with shippers to rectify issues.
Painter, 03/2017 to 10/2018
Matts Final Touch Painting: Milwaukee, WI
• This was a small company usually 2 or 3 part time hack painters as well 2 or 3 full time actual painters.. I wasn’t an on the books employee here.. I was brought in to run jobs as needed when his workers required extra guidance.. it was mostly basic residential painting around Wauwatosa, WI. If work slowed we also did landscaping and snow removal as needed…
• business closed the doors early 2019 due to an out of control drug addiction by the company’s owner..
2013 to mid 2017: I shuffled around from shop to shop unable to really secure a comfortable, welcoming long-term shop with a knowledgeable journeyman to take me under their wing like every apprentice needs at some point to guide them early on.. I worked at
•Tradesmen International; 6 months
• 3 Brother’s Painting;
3 months
• No Drips No Skips;
30 months off and on
Any time I wasn’t working full time they would put me to work. I am forever grateful to them. They helped mold me into a quality painter. They were quite possibly the reason I chose to stay and develop into the somewhat talented, slightly set in my way, extremely detailed always dependable occasionally amazing painter I have become. I amassed about 2.5 years working experience..
Painter, 03/2012 to 09/2013
Merit Painting: Milwaukee, WI
• A fairly steady company as far as work went.. the owner was very arrogant and outspoken when drunk..his employees often had to cover for his behavior around customers when he thought they weren’t around..
• overall it was a decent shop to start my career. I learned how to paint both efficiently and neatly. learning how to guide the customer thru the entire process when needed..
• Before working at Merit I almost made a career in plastic injection.. a few years in, I was very young; still wet behind the ears I didn’t see it being a lucrative 40 year career.. a buddy and I after doing some homework decided to explore something new …I started my journey at a union shop:
Building Service Inc. 11/2010 to 03/2011 there wasn’t much available at this shop for an untrained greenhorn so I was guided to another shop
Olympic Wall Setters
04/2011 to 07/2011
•I was younger and less experienced than the other guys in the shop. Nobody really wanted to train me so it made for a long painful workday. I was given most of the grunt work and prep work. My first big commercial project was a 24 floor new construction. We were unable to use the elevator at that time so the apprentices had to carry 2 5 gallon buckets of paint up 23 flights of stairs each morning.. it was a long arduous morning.. not a lot was accomplished so upon reaching the top floor with the paint the other guys would usually boss us around and have fun at our expense… I opted for a voluntary lay off and I reevaluated my career plan. I took it easy for awhile stayed on unemployment for a few months while building my painting skills doing small side jobs.. then I heard about Merit Painting and decided to give it a shot.. it was a great gig for about 18 months. But between late 2013 and mid 2017 I shuffled around from shop to shop unable to really secure a comfortable, welcoming long-term shop with a knowledgeable journeyman to take me under their wing like every apprentice needs at some point to guide them early on.. I worked at
•Tradesmen International 6 months
• 3 Brother’s Painting
3 months
• No Drips No Skips (small family company)
Any time I wasn’t at a full time shop or other project I was able to call and they would put me to work. I am very grateful for this opportunity. They helped mold me into a quality painter. They possibly were the reason I chose to stay and develop into the somewhat talented, slightly set in my way, extremely detailed always dependable occasionally amazing painter i have become.
