To Whom It May Concern:
I am interested in applying for the GIS position. My career has given me experience as an engineering assistant, network administrator, application and/or network support, software development, mapping, project analysis, data management, databases, spreadsheet on DOS, Windows, or UNIX OS. I have over 20 years of computer support in many different industries while completing my BS degree in Computer Science at Metropolitan State College. This has taught me the different levels of needed data that objects will be able to piece together in enhanced computer applications; different object combinations for different users. Giving both school, which focused on the object-oriented development/programming (C++, Java, VB), and work my full attention has led to more responsibilities, increase my broad communication skills, and understanding to what was needed through my queries.
At United States Geological Survey - Water Resources Division (USGS-WRD) and HS Resources/KMG under ARCINFO and ARCGIS, I've developed maps by digitizing, entered data, and added various attribute tables/layers as needed. The maps had various attributes such as water and/or oil reservoirs, wells, pipelines, geological layers, production output statistics, rate of flow, etc... I am certified in GIS and used Geographix and ArcGIS. With 6 engineers, I discussed what geospatial data quality was needed as to the resolution, accuracy, and precision to the digitization of the water and/or oil reservoir. I would develop a map. I soon became GIS certified under DOS (ARCINFO), under Windows (ARCGIS) and Arcview certified. I developed an MS Access database with GUI and extensive SQL queries for the engineers at HRS/KMG.
This included previous drilled wells and the data from other companies and the USGS, which I had to decern the quality control and quality assurance from other sources. I've also converted geospatial/attribute data from other standards to the standard used at the current position. This included statistical formulas, color shading, and data layering that I made and added.
I hope you had time to review my qualifications. I am highly motivated and anxious to get into the work field to apply the knowledge I have acquired and to learn new skills. I feel my skills and ability would be an asset to your company. The references and letters of recommendation I can supply will attest to my problem solving skills, dependability and conscientiousness as an employee.
Thank you for your time. Warren Gaal

I am interested in applying for the Network Administrator position. My career has given me experience as an engineering assistant, network administrator, application and/or network support, software development, data management and recovery, databases, spreadsheet on DOS, Windows, or UNIX OS. I have over 20 years of computer support in many different industries while completing my BS degree in Computer Science at Metropolitan State College using C++, Java, and Visual Basic. Giving both school and work my full attention has led to more responsibilities increase my broad communication skills, and understanding to what was needed through my queries.
Petrogulf Corp. did not have any direct computer personnel. Having been in the IT industry for over 15 years, I knew the organization of productivity and management. I set up a remote office in Rifle, Colorado that collect data from 300 producing wells in the field and through developing the TCP/IP for travelling engineers. Using the SCADA system, the new office will relay data to the Rifle office and then Denver. This entailed ordering computers, printer, scanner, switchboard, and fax. With Qwest, I set up a DSL with two separate phone lines which was interpreted as two DSL lines that I had to correct. I’ve also coordinated a network change and mainframe room change. Using the Active Directory with new employees, I assigned DNS, mapped directories/files (Read, Write, Execute attributes), passwords, and more.
Using Symantecs for the daily backup, I was able retrieve data for users or groups that they unknowingly changed or deleted. I coordinated a move of the Outlook email from a Linux Server using VPN (virtual private network) to the Exchange Server on a Windows 2003 Server. The email is now backed-up on the server and also gave traveling personnel means of getting their email directly. Before the change, personnel would have to leave their computers on and forward company emails through commercial carriers with the email downloaded to the PC, thereby erased on the server. This inhibited the backup from completion. I saved the company money in conversion by sending a helping worker home after the individual PCs were done. After finding an error performed by the helping worker, I spent 4 more hours correcting their error in copying old emails, contacts, and deleting the old architecture.
I had 70 PC users that I controlled access, password, mapped through the Active Directory and support with hardware/software questions, bought/discard PCs, install on network and updated various PC/System software. I implemented the company-wide network security statement signed acknowledgement by all end-users. Using Norton through Symantec, I checked the nightly system virus checks and was able to produce accidentally deleted files. Researched and interviewed 9 copier/printer/fax/scanner vendors to decide which one was more viable for the Land Department at Petrogulf Corp.. With my excellent interpersonal negotiating skill, I have talked with the IT users and communicated/negotiated with my company’s President/VP and vendors to solve the user’s problem(s).
Thank you for considering me for this opportunity. As the only hired IT personnel, I implemented, managed, maintained and supported all the hardware and software of the network and system for the company. With this position, I was the liaison between the company staff and IT vendors or outside company associates. I am highly motivated to apply the knowledge that I have acquired and eager to learn new skills. The references and letters of recommendation I can supply will attest to my problem solving skills, dependability and dedication as an employee.

While working part-time at HS Resources, a petroleum exploration firm, I built spreadsheets in Excel on new oil
& gas well characteristics in and around the DJ basin area for additional exploration prospects. They hired me full
-time to help produce and maintain the full extent of the Access database to aid engineers in their analysis of near
by wells. I converted my Excel spreadsheets to the Access database where I built a user GUI. I ran daily/monthly
updates importing data, made various SQL queries/triggers, and helped develop the SQL & Visual Basic (VB6, V
BA) code in the Windows OS platform. When hired full time, I also made a database and template macro for the
Marketing Department for tracking vendors' accountability.
I've made several graphs and equations in Excel spreadsheets at HS Resources and KMG; mud weight, pore press
ure, fracture gradient versus depth, pore pressure, daily production for oil, gas, water, decline curves, Monte Carlo
, etc... I've also made well bore diagrams with liners, tubing, casings, (float) collars, packers, pay zones, etc... I've
dealt with financial AFE, input daily/monthly production, perforation(s), core, AOF and IP data, uploaded OPS in
to Aries, upload the Drilling Wire, and calculated well monthly cost and reserve forecasts. I was using my probabi

Kerr-McGee Rocky Mountain Corporation, HS Resources and Desk & Derrick have trained me in ArcGIS, Aries,
Geographix, G & G Application, PowerTools, Aries, Nonverbal Communication, and Data & Engineering Softw

and a rig trip to Hicks 4-7 in the Wattenberg field, Weld county, Colorado.
I was working part time with Qwest and HS Resources, which has given me an opportunity to interact and commu

I related several spreadsheets according to reservoir, location, or well number as the primary field. The characteristics including location, depth, fluid viscosity, gas, well fluid used, etc... Incorporating this into the database, this gave the engineers more information to determine whether and where to drill, the equipment needed, personnel, etc…
