PROJECTS

Capstone 2: Glorious Books

Objective: Create a database driven website powered by an external API.

Tools: Google Books API, React, NodeJS, OAuth2.0, Axios

Outcome: Created a website for searching the Google Books API by either title, author, or subject. Each book returned from a search was shown on a web page along with a summary of the book, book images, average rating, and links to purchase the book, preview the book, and add the book to Google bookshelves. Users could login to the Google authorization server, receive a token, access their collection of books on the website, and update those collections.

Capstone 1: The Cocktail Encyclopedia

Objective: Create a database driven website powered by an external API.

Tools: Python, Flask, SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL, Jinja, WTForms, Cocktails API, Axios

Outcomes: Created a website for searching cocktails via the Cocktails DB API. Users could search for cocktails through names or ingredients, find cocktail recipes, add drinks to their favorites, and write reviews. Information about users, their reviews and favorites were stored in a SQL database.

Section 1 Cumulative Project: Hacker News Clone

Objective: Add features to a news aggregator site so that users can create accounts, login, create articles, mark articles as favorites, etc.

Tools: Javascript, HTML, CSS, DOM, Hack or Snooze API, Axios

Outcomes: Wrote functionality for logged in users to create articles and send them to the API. Also, created a login and signup for users. Added the ability for users to mark articles as favorite, unfavorite, and delete them.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE

Developed, supervised, and taught the four Humanities courses all students must complete to graduate from the university.

The courses focused on how to think critically and acquire the virtues of thought.

Director of the CORE, Associate Professor of Philosophy, Arizona Christian University, 2016-2022 Glendale, AZ

Director of the CORE curriculum – the set of required liberal arts courses students must take to graduate from the university.

Taught complicated and complex ideas from history to students who had no prior training in how to think well.

Created the online courses for the humanities and a logic course using over 100 videos that I had recorded and edited, and developed a spate of discussion worksheets, reading guides, lecture outlines, paper topics, readings notes, for each part of a course.
