Being a Manager at an emergency women’s shelter came with a lot of responsibilities, many of which were not typical. I was responsible for making sure the women had two hot meals, breakfast and dinner. I had to be available at any hour of the day or night to take in anyone that needed help. I would get phone calls from hospitals, police officers, social workers and good samaritans. I was also responsible for taking in donations that were given to the shelter. I was responsible for helping women get into rehab programs, find permanent housing, reunite mothers with children as well as their extended family. I was responsible for purchasing inventory for the shelter as well as the soup kitchen that was operated on the first floor of the building.
