VOLUNTEER EMPLOYMENT EXPERIENCE:
Surrattsville High School Dates Employed: 06/2024 - present
Athletic Department, 6101 Garden Drive Hours per Week: 20
Clinton, MD 20735
Coaching – Wide Receivers/Tight Ends Varsity Football Team
I provide guidance and instructions about the wide receivers and tight ends positions to student athletes in the varsity program. Being a former Collegiate Player in both positions, I have extensive knowledge to provide the necessary skills warranted to teach to athletes. I run daily routines demonstrating various drills learned to improve the athlete’s ability to improve their performance in these positions. I teach that to have a true understanding for these positions, it takes more than the athletic ability; it also takes mental and physical endurance. I demonstrate through teaching the athletes how to read game film and understand what they did wrong or right and what to do to improve for the next time. I implement various drills so these athletes know they must be in shape to go an entire 48 minutes, 12 minutes per quarter, of a football game if need to be. I believe in “building up” rather than “tearing down” a player’s self-worth. I don’t humiliate a player for their wrong doing, instead I encourage them by demonstrating the right way the task should have been done, so they are motivated to learn and do better. Since this is part of High School with athletes ranging from 9th thru 12th grades, I am constantly in contact with players and parents to assist in meetings to explain rules, schedules, expectations, and conduct to be held throughout the season. I also assist in the monitoring conditions of practices and games to ensure safety for players along with them being hydrated throughout. I also assist to ensure they attend their mandatory study hall sessions to complete daily assignments and allow for them to seek help among group where assistance is needed. This position has allowed me the opportunity to work with students from very difficult situations and reaffirmed my belief that as a coach I have the ability to create change in the lives of these students through character building as well as being a role model for student athletes.
