Managed the IT infrastructure team for a research and development site, which included both business and research staff. Supported ~400 users, ~500 workstations, and 7 servers, including many specialized workstations for scientific instruments. Maintained strict security standard compliance for many items including OS patches and Symantec AV version/definitions. Assessed and remediated security vulnerabilities identified in routine vulnerability scans, penetration tests, and audits.
Performed IT security assessments to insure all new software and cloud applications were assessed using the corporate technology introduction process. Addressed potential shortcomings with vendors, worked with various internal technology teams, and ensured proper documentation was maintained. Applications which included SaS, AutoCAD, ANSYS and other alternatives included vendor risk assessments.
Routinely called on to solve complex technical issues in analytical labs. Consulted on computer interfaces and data transfer options for many analytical instruments such as scanning electron microscopes, x-ray spectroscopy instruments, and an atomic force microscope. Also provided recommendations for network connectivity for PLCs (programmable logic controllers) used in manufacturing.
Maintain the site’s network to support Gigabit networking consisting of 32 new Cisco PoE switches in 9 IDF rooms and upgrading the core to a dual switch design for redundancy. Also introduced redundancy to each IDF by installing dual fiber connections to each switch stack.
Documented IT infrastructure for pending sale of Flat Glass division. Inventoried workstations, servers, network and telecom equipment, and documented software and licenses.
