I created this addendum to my resume as there are many things that I have done that are too much to describe in a normal resume style. This has been done to emphasize some of those accomplishments and things that I do that are way above a normal AutoCAD or Rebis designer. I have written hundreds of AutoLISP programs that make using AutoCAD easier for myself and my co-workers. Tracking the use of just a few of these programs in 2010 they saved over 800 man-hours. Additional programs written in VB.NET language provide unbelievable time savings. For example I created an Excel file drawing index for 240 drawings. Total time to do this index was about 2 minutes. Done manually it would have taken one CAD person about 2 days to enter all the information into the Excel file.
I have setup design projects using various disciplines 3D drawings to create 3D models using straight AutoCAD and Rebis AutoPlant software. This includes cable trays, individual pieces of equipment, HVAC ductwork, piping and structural steel. These models are then xreferenced into other design discipline drawings. This allows the designers to readily see where there is room to place their discipline’s components. The designer can also see most interference or potential interference problems. I have written many additional programs that allow attaching or overlaying these drawings as external referenced drawings into other disciplines drawings. Most of these programs use dialog boxes making all this easy to do. The ability to easily share drawings with other disciplines greatly reduces design as well as construction costs.
In Tennessee two senior designers and the lead designer had spent two months working on a project. Two weeks after I started on the project the lead designer stopped the other two designers from doing any more design work. I found so many interference's in their design work that we virtually started over. I was given the task of designing ALL of the pipe for the project, which was several million dollars in size. I was able to complete all of this design and the project stayed on schedule. Field rework was minimal due to my method of using multiple view ports and clipped views when I design. This was done using Rebis AutoPlant.
I was asked by a Rebis sales rep to go to Raytheon, Puerto Rico to help them get started using AutoPlant. Prior to my going to Puerto Rico Rebis had sent two of their instructors to Raytheon for two weeks each but the users were still having problems. A designer created a clipped view using my clipped view program that took him less than two minutes. He had previously spent nearly two days trying to create the same clipped view. The project engineer told me she overheard the designers talking amongst themselves and said "they didn't know what they would have done if I had not come to Puerto Rico to help them. I also developed a way to do final construction plan and elevation drawings that is great. Quoting the construction manager upon seeing this new type of plan and section drawings, "I could put it together with grade schoolers' using these drawings" and "this will save the field a lot of time." I stayed at Raytheon for 4 months and they were mad when I left. My supervisor at Beloit told me the “Star” designer from brand X. Engineering drew 15 pipe routing lines in 84 hours and I drew 15 equally difficult lines in less than 20 hours. I converted ALL the drawings to "color by size" for an 850 million dollar pulp and paper plant by running six computers at the same time over a weekend. I wrote a program to annotate the piping after conversion which saved many man hours. Rebis AutoPlant also.
I spent three days at Basic Systems in Cambridge, Ohio consulting with them on AutoPlant Designer and Isometric programs. I showed them how to use multiple paper space viewports for 3D design work. How to use clipped views to find interference problems. Provided some custom programs and menu customization to help their designers. The first evening we were discussing their project and I suggested they take one special area and make it one drawing instead of several. The very nice comment I heard was "do you know how many drawings that will save us?" I am sure this suggestion alone more than covered my cost.
In New Mexico on an Intel Fab project ten designers were struggling to use the AutoPLANT Isometric program. A coworker and I made many modifications that helped get the project on track. One designer reported to management "the project is a lot further along thanks to all the things Jack did with the software."
The following are quotes from a memo sent to me concerning my usage and customization of the AutoPLANT Isometric program at the Intel Fab project. "The work you have done with the EDA ISO Metrics menus to automate redundant functions through macros and lisp routines has not gone unnoticed." this work is valuable and desire to incorporate features of your menu customizations in the next release of the software." My clipped view program is so quick and easy to use and is essential for 3D design work. It does some additional features, such as creating related View's, UCS's and layers. For creating 3D final plan and elevation views it will save even more time. Of the several hundred programs I have written this one is in the top five category. I also have a method of using the 3D reps for making final plan and elevation drawings that will save literally hundreds of hours. This is one of the reasons several people have told me I am like a free employee because I save them so much time and money. I have worked with dozen’s of people using AutoCAD and I have never met anyone who was as productive as I am. I know it sounds like a bag of wind bragger but I have been told such. A combination of my general design skills along with all the customization and programs I have written is why.
