Overview: The Inventory Management System (IMS) project aims to develop a software solution that enables businesses to track and manage their inventory efficiently. The project focuses on creating a reliable tool for warehouse personnel and inventory managers to monitor stock levels, process orders, and generate detailed reports. The IMS seeks to enhance accuracy, reduce manual errors, and support better decision-making through real-time data insights by streamlining inventory control and order management. This plan outlines the project's objectives, scope, team roles, resource allocation, risk management, communication strategies, and schedule to ensure successful execution.

Goals and Objectives: The goal of the Inventory Management System project is to create a software application that centralizes the ability to control and track all of the inventory items of a business. The system should be presented as a user-friendly graphical user interface that lets the inventory manager add, update, remove items, and generate reports in real-time with the database. Along with the ability to manage the inventory directly by adding and removing items it also must have the ability to adjust the inventory when customer orders are filled. All inventory counts are to be kept in a secure database only to be accessed by the inventory application.

Scope: The Inventory Management System project focuses on delivering a tool that enables effective management of stock levels, order processing, and report generation. The system will allow users to add, update, and remove items through a graphical user interface (JavaFX) and will adjust inventory levels in real-time when customer orders are fulfilled. A secure XML-based database will store all inventory data, accessible only through the application. The project will include key components such as Item, Order, Inventory, Database, Report, and User Interface, with each team member responsible for developing specific parts. Regular integration sessions will ensure smooth functionality. The system will use Java for backend logic, JavaFX for the user interface, and XML for the database. However, it will not support multi-warehouse synchronization, external API integration, mobile or web applications, or financial accounting features, as the focus is on creating a straightforward desktop-based inventory management tool.
