NATIONAL POSTAL MAIL HANDLERS UNION – Local 306-Chicago, IL. (2014 – Dec. 31, 2023) Treasurer / Illinois and Wisconsin / Elected Official Salary: $115,000.00 Yearly / 40 hours per week Duties and Responsibilities:
As Local Treasurer my responsibilities included but not limited to managing the Local Union's finances, ensuring compliance with auditing standards, and providing necessary financial reports to higher authorities while also handling IT-related tasks for the organization/Cybersecurity and Technology
Any funds payable to the Local Union are to be given to the Treasurer, who will provide a proper receipt.
Recording and Depositing Monies
The Treasurer is responsible for maintaining accurate records of all received funds and depositing them in the Local Union's bank accounts as directed by the Executive Board.
Financial Reporting at Meetings
The Treasurer must present a detailed financial report at each Local Union meeting, outlining all funds received and disbursed since the last report.
Alongside the Local President, the Treasurer must sign all checks or payment orders from the Local Union's accounts.
Coordinating with Auditors
The Treasurer is responsible for providing financial records to Certified Public Accountants for auditing purposes. They must also cooperate with auditors appointed by the National Secretary-Treasurer.
The Treasurer must ensure timely payment of monthly per capita taxes to the National Postal Mail Handlers Union for members who have paid dues directly to the Local Union.
Record Keeping / Payroll / Compensation / Auditing
All financial transaction records of the Local Union are under the custody of the Treasurer and must be maintained at the Local Union headquarters.
The Treasurer is required to submit a detailed financial report to the National President every quarter, covering receipts, disbursements, assets, and liabilities of the Local Union.
Computer Technician Responsibilities
In addition to financial duties, the Treasurer also serves as the computer technician for Local 306 and its 18 branches in Illinois and Wisconsin, likely handling IT-related tasks and support.
Department of Labor Audit Completion
The Treasurer completed a seven-month audit starting in February 2016, as required by the Department of Labor, and the audit was passed successfully.

As QWL Coordinator, I have assisted the QWL process at South Suburban and the Great Lakes Area in winning multiple National QWL awards while saving the postal service millions of dollars, and enhancing the Quality of Work Life for Mail Handlers throughout the country. Completed our Mail Handlers Academy manual and trained trainers, then trained MHA’s as they come into our facility. (This training is still on going at South Suburban P&DC.
