Professional Experience
St. Elizabeth Hospital
Data Architect Aug. 2023 - Current
ETL/Architecture
●Created custom SSIS packages and data structures to load the Caboodle data warehouse which is the main reporting data warehouse for the hospital.
●Reviewed existing ETL processes to improve performance, error handling, and enhanced logging to better report issues. These processes existed both inside the EPIC ETL system as well as custom processes/projects outside of the framework.
●Worked as a team in creating new or improved data structures for Power BI and SSAS cubes. Created a process to programmatically refresh data models once main ETL processes had completed.
●Worked heavily with Press Ganey survey data which finds areas of improvement for the clinical side as well as highlights successes which funnel additional money and grants to the hospital.
Affinitiv
ETL Lead – Kia Motors Mar. 2018 - Aug. 2023
Data Migration
●Promoted to lead the effort to migrate Kia Motors legacy data to the company's new chosen product while also managing my Database Architect/ETL lead duties for the legacy system.
●Created a daily ETL to ingested data from the new product and merged/matched customer data and communication data to create reporting data for both legacy and the new product.
●Developed ETL processes in Snowflake and SSIS to process ROI and house other data warehouse structures for reporting. Added error handling to new and old processing that reduced error issues and logged errors while continuing to process data on error.
●Worked closely with in house and an offshore team in creating database objects and documentation of current/future reports to migrate existing SSRS reports to Tableau reports or in application KPIs.
●Acted as DBA managing indexes, implementing data archive jobs, and implemented changes to improve performance.
OneCommand
Database Architect/ETL Lead Mar. 2015 - Mar. 2018
New Functionality/Maintenance
●Lead on ETL for the main product which delivers email, voice, text, print, and social media communications to automotive customers. Converted existing ETL processes into SSIS packages with a multithreaded approach which decreased ETL times and data gaps caused by failed processing. This involved the loading of between 50-80 million updates/inserts daily.
●Majority of reports also needed performance tuning and/or new reporting structures.
●Aided in performance enhancement and redesign of the communication delivery engine.
●Developed report subscription feature which allows end users to have reports emailed on a schedule they’ve chosen.
●Implemented multiple CDC and/or queue based ETL processes for import and export.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
Data Warehouse Analyst - Biomedical Informatics Dept. Sept. 2013 – Mar. 2015
Data Extracts From EPIC/CLARITY
●Fulfill data requests from researchers which are used to aid them in their study. Our group works exclusively with extracts that are highly complicated and/or require data from a large range of data flow groups.
●As well as extract development, duties consist of understanding the study purpose, meeting with requesters to gather requirements, and educate the requesters on potential solutions, directions, and tools.
●Fulfillments usually consist of one-time or recurring data extracts, data marts, SSRS reports, and/or custom applications.
Common Data Model Grant
●Chosen to work on a grant requiring leading research hospitals to migrate EPIC/CLARITY data into a common data model. The goal being to establish data sharing, collaboration, and framework for future development.
●Majority developer of ETL which was designed by CCHMC and distributed for use to 15 other hospitals.
●Project required a substantial amount of mapping/transformation, time effective processing, scalable ETL design, and significant documentation.
Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center
Systems Programmer - Biomedical Informatics Dept. Nov. 2011 – Sept. 2013
Bio-Bank Database/Software
●Worked with a team supporting the hospital’s Biomaterial Tracking & Management system (BTM). Assisted with direction and implementation of new projects, application upgrades, reporting, and data security concerning the BTM database, application, and reporting tools. Aided project management in their duties.
●Aided in requirements gathering and sole developer of automated ETL process for user data loads. This greatly reduced user time spent on data entry by bulk loading sample data. Discrepancies in ETL were automatically reported to users which allowed the process to run with little support from IT staff.
●Led requirements gathering and sole developer of BTM data warehouse model and ETL. Developed sample reports and SSAS cube to pitch to the project investors. Aided in developing reports on completion of data warehouse.
CoreLogic
Data And Program Service Analyst Aug. 2005 – Nov. 2011
Multiple Listing Service Data Processing
●Worked on a team building and maintaining the MLS data warehousing environment. Our duties included database design and development of ETL consisting of automated downloading, formatting, and updating from over 300 individual data feeds. Aided in all areas of database maintenance, data standardization, data profiling/cleansing, and row by row security.
●Individually managed over 4500 deliveries a month, averaging approximately 200 million records, to supplement previously existing products. Acted as primary contact for requests and questions regarding these extracts, as well as managed all changes throughout the company.
●Managed the design and implementation of bulk data extracts of our entire database to major data and financial institutions to enhance the data already received from the company.
National Licensing Bulk Data Deliveries
●Aided in the processing and delivery of over 2 billion real estate records per month, purchased by major data and financial institutions. Helped in answering questions and coordinating changes.
●Designed software to quality check and create delivery packages for data extracts. This reduced processing time by over 48 hours as well as being nearly automated.
●Delivered record counts based on client criteria to potential and existing clients which eventually would become new business.
