I just graduated from the Regis College of Health Sciences School of Epidemiology with a Master of Public Health Degree with a concentration in Epidemiology. For over 2 decades I have dedicated my life to caring for patients with diseases, but after the COVID-19 pandemic I was inspired to study Epidemiology, to become a part of a healthcare team that surveys infections and diseases in a bid to prevent them from occurring in the first place. This could in turn mitigate disease occurrence, infection occurrence, thereby preventing hospitalization and saving lives; prevention is always better than cure. My responsibilities included setting goals and standards on my unit, directed all supervisory duties on the unit, oversaw Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses and Geriatric Nursing Assistants, Unit Secretary and general support staff, delegating assignments, assigning tasks and evaluating employee job performance, implementing disciplinary action against employees who did not meet their job requirements or provide inadequate care as well as mentored less experienced nursing staff and new nurse graduates as needed.
