Champaign and Sangamon County, IL RWD-based PMS

Role: Mr. Rennels is responsible for data collecting and data processing for RWD, FWD, PCI, Profile, and Texture. Data will be used for the implementation of a pavement management system using ARA's Roadcare software. ARA will prioritize roads to be rehabilitated and provide a Capital Improvements Program based on the RWD results, making this a first-time ever project of its type in the U.S. ISTHA Pavement/Roadway Management Services: Network-Level Structural Evaluation Role: Mr. Rennels performed a variety of roles including FWD operator, Retro & Spectro Reflection testing, MQA inspector, noise, and texture collection. This project is continuation of the existing contract between ARA and ISTHA in the effort to maintain the Illinois Tollways. The overall purpose of the coring and FWD testing is to supplement the pavement condition ratings generated from the video inspection data, and to identify any potential underlying problems. Rolling-Wheel Deflectometer (RWD) Testing, Video Recording, and Upgrades to RWD Role: Mr. Rennels performed federal highway demos and testing for Iowa, Kansas, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Vermont, Colorado, New Mexico, Louisiana DOT, and most resent the Dallas Tollway system. And upgrads made with the help of CTS to the RWD by adding an H-vac system and wind tunnel to keep lasers at a constant Temperature.

Improving the Safety of Moving and Static Lane Closures Role: Mr. Rennels collected and researched data to try to find better ways to perform moving closures. When all the research was complete; he helped put together workshops for IDOT, Tollway, State police, and other people who are associated with moving closures. To further understand what can be done or changed to make moving closures safer.

IDOT state wide FWD and Friction Testing

Role: Mr. Rennels collected FWD data with a truck mounted Jills; and Friction data with a DOT built trailer, at many locations across the state of Illinois. And a number of FWD, PCI Road and Airport projects all over the country - world. This includes Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands.
