Senior Project Automation Manager

Main Functions / Activities / Responsibilities

Project Manager in particular for Engineering and Construction projects associated with the ADM Program Aurora Digital Transformation of the Decatur, IL East Plants with special emphasis in the design and construction of Emerson DeltaV DCS system replacement of Rockwell D3, PLANTPAX and D5 PLC control systems in existing operating plants, where scheduled shutdowns needed to be coordinated sometimes 6 or more months ahead of time.

Development of the following:

Perform Project Management implementing the recently implemented Front End Loading (FEL) system coordinating all the disciplines necessary as [Technical (Civil, Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls, Process, Structural, External Third-Party engineering etc.) and Administrative (Accounting / Budgeting, Scheduling and tracking of the project schedule, Documentation, Procurement and Logistics, etc.)] to develop a quality engineering project, on time and on budget.

Project Scheduling, both development and execution and tracking (Engineering / Construction / Precommissioning, Commissioning and Start Up))

Perform Fabrication inspection of units, where applicable.

Perform Construction Management Support to construction contractors as engineering advisory.

Participate Precommissioning, Commissioning and Startup of projects.

Participate in Control System migrations from new equipment controlled via PLC to Customer DCS control Systems.

ADM Decatur, IL East Plant Soy processing plants, Digital Modernization and Transformation associated with the Program Aurora replacement of existing Rockwell PLC control systems with Emerson DeltaV control system,

The project is comprised of 8 phases with an estimated TIC of $80+MM, during my tenure worked on the following,

Infrastructure which included the civil, mechanical, structural associated with a new Emerson supplied Remote Instrument Enclosure (RIE) with new servers, modification of an existing storage area to a new IO room, an electrical pipe bridge to interconnect several plant areas over railroad tracks and the installation of a fiber optic link interconnecting several plant areas and the new IO rooms as well as the Corporate Data Center.

Preparation and Extraction of soy grains with the replacement of over 17 Rockwell sub panels with the new Emerson DeltaV system components. The preliminary work of checking existing wiring, connections, installation of UPS and clean power, grounding and WIFI systems was performed previous to the plant shutdown. During the shutdown the panels where replaced and then proceeded to perform commissioning and start up by plant Automation personnel as well as Emerson/Experitec personnel.

In the Fluor Mill A, the same was performed with 11 PLC’s changed out, though a big difference was that several shorter shutdowns where coordinated, allowing for an easier process of placing back into operations

The Isolate 1 plant was in the final stages of de FEL 3 process starting to move to the FEL (Construction), at the same time the Functional Concentrates plant was in the FEL 2 stage proceeding to the FEL 3 stage.
