WELDER WG-3703-11 (This is a federal job)

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

Under this position I would supervise non-supervisory positions in shop 62611. Welding functions performed in this shop are currently TIG welding, stress relieving and some heat treating. The Electron Beam Welding and Dabber Tig welding functions are currently non functional. I would report to the General Foreman. I plan daily and weekly sequences of work operations for subordinates when working as a supervisor. I coordinate work operations working form schedules and daily production reports provided by program managers and hub schedulers. From my superiors, schedules, reports and the production cost scoreboard, I set priorities and issue work assignments via production controllers and my work leader. I implement 4 D's by focusing on WIGs, acting on lead measures, keeping a compelling scoreboard and creating a cadence of accountability. I attend WIG sessions and keep the communication board current. I employ an effective mechanism for obtaining information from employees by having shop meetings. We discuss WIGS, do walk arounds and I do my best to implement employee suggestions. I communicate in a concise and clear manner that is well organized and timely. I listen actively to and respond accordingly to subordinates ideas, questions and concerns. I actively participate in Lean/Six-Sigma/5-S events. I attend formal and informal training and briefings on Lean subject matter. I also serve as a representative on (CPI) continuous process improvement teams and perform/lead CPI events that show performance gaps. I help others understand and develop value stream maps of key processes. I perform risk analysis and provide contingency plans on all major decisions. I provide staffing requirements based on attrition, workload, cross training and overtime. I understand how direct and indirect costs and how they affect the rates affecting the depot financial system. Critical thinking is imperative in my position. Communication, Cooperation and Teamwork are essential and part of my leadership skills. I collaborate, encourage and provide a positive team atmosphere which promotes trust, cooperation and group identity. I resolve disagreements by providing a positive constructive solution. I demonstrate a high standard of conduct represent the organization effectively. I give my employees confidence in their skills and hold myself accountable for problem in my area. I actively promote management programs such as EEO,Vision, Safety, ISO and all other AIRspeed initiatives. From previous training in blueprint reading, on the job use of sketches and layouts and experience on various engine parts, I interpret work operations and assign subordinates tasks needed to meet the production schedule. I coordinate work with other shop units as required to get the best results. I requisition tools, tooling, equipment and necessary materials. Insure all measurement tools are kept current with calibration, and implement all instructions on positive tool control. I train subordinates in proper use of tools, work methods and safe use of all equipment. I determine or collaborate with others to establish performance standards. I work with engineering to via REI/TEI to incorporate CPI. For example I wrote a REI to improve the removal and installation of the heatsheild on the N2 J52 diffuser. The machine shop repeatedly removed the heatshield incorrectly removing too much parent metal. I requested the heatshield be removed with a cutting wheel and a sanding disc. This alleviated the transport back and forth between the machine shop and the welding shop and provided a higher quality process. Judging the individual capabilities of artisans plays and important role as to who I assign work to. Assignment of work is made to those qualified to do the most timely and quality repair. I examine work for quality and give instruction for expected work completion. I ensure all safety, fire and tool regulations are complied with. Shop clean ups are done routinely to insure good housekeeping and cleanliness. I keep abreast of equipment breakdowns, part bottlenecks, part delays and inefficiencies providing resolutions for these problems in a timely manner. If necessary I acquire special permissions from higher levels of supervision. I maintain records or subordinates time and overtime. I examine man-hours expended, injuries and accidents for causes and file the appropriate reports on these. I process the performance ratings, leave requests, and make recommendations on disciplinary actions, promotions, demotions, training requirements, transfers, separations, grievances and Visions or beneficial suggestions. I myself take disciplinary actions such as letter of caution and reprimand. I resolve grievances at the first level whenever possible. I attend training and supervisor conferences relaying pertinent information to employees.
