PERSONAL STATEMENT

I accepted Christ at the age of ten. I began attending a small rural church with my mother. We both became very active in the music ministry of that little church. My mother played the piano and I began playing the organ at the age of twelve. It was around this time in my life that I sensed God’s call to ministry. I did not realize that His call was in the area of music until many years later.

I continued to serve in music ministry as we left that church. I became the youth choir pianist for Mount Olive Baptist Church and later became the organist. I planned to get the training I needed for ministry by majoring in Church Music at Mercer University where I studied organ under Dr. Robert Parish. Unfortunately, financial constraints cut my time at Mercer short. As I returned home to attend Gainesville College, I worked full-time at Little-Ward Funeral Home in Commerce, Georgia to pay my way through school and no longer majored in music. As I continued my studies at the University of Georgia, I earned a business degree that eventually led me into banking. Banking led me to Cornelia, Georgia and Level Grove Baptist church. In a much larger and growing church, I realized my true calling. I left the banking world in early 2009 to go into ministry full-time. At that time, I enrolled in New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary where I earned a Master of Arts degree in Worship Ministries. My desire then was to enter the doctoral program, so I leveled my degree to a Master of Arts in Christian Education and immediately began taking doctoral level classes.
