WORK EXPERIENCE

FreeDoc 07/2019 - Current

As the Records & Information Consultant, I assist companies, cities, utility districts, counties, and schools with business assessments, strategic planning of information governance, discovery processes, record inventorying, policy and procedure creations, gap analyses, training, disaster planning, and paper and electronic “clean up” projects. This work serves as a foundation in preparation for adopting an electronic content management system.

Washington State Office of Minority & Women’s Business Enterprises 03/2014 - 10/2018

As an Assistant Director, I was hired to start a Records Management program and independently managed the public disclosure requests, created policies and procedures, and served as the Rules Coordinator. I led an enterprise risk management work group, created and revised Washington Administrative Codes, and served as a member of an enterprise data migration project. I also worked with the Governor’s Office, other agencies, and outreach partners on various endeavors.

Washington State Department of Corrections 02/2012 - 03/2014

As a Public Disclosure Specialist, I assisted in ensuring compliance with the Public Records Act by releasing records in accordance with applicable laws. I was an agency expert on disclosure issues, responsible for consultation, training, research, and consistency among staff throughout the State. I assisted other unit members and coordinators with a second level of review, working with Assistant Attorney Generals as issues arose. I also helped administer the Public Disclosure Unit’s SharePoint site, tracking centralized and decentralized requests.

Employment Security Department of Washington State 03/2010 - 02/2012

As the Assistant Records Officer, I was responsible for scheduling and coordinating records management services to ensure conformance with legal requirements and agency standards. I consulted with offices on issues including retention, security, social media, digital records, public disclosure, inventorying, policy, and imaging projects. I developed training manuals, created unique retention schedules, and streamlined the process of records preservation and destruction to ensure the development, growth, and success of the agency records management program.

Washington State Archives 01/2006 - 03/2010

As the Acquisitions Archivist, I was responsible for centralizing and preserving historical records and making them available for research. I accessioned records into the facility from State agencies and the Records Center, created finding guides for various collections, assisted researchers, supervised work-study students, instructed classes at the Department of Personnel, and worked on projects as assigned. I was also a consultant to Records Officers and other government employees and worked on several projects with the State Records Management office.

WORK EXPERIENCE (CONTINUED)

National Archives and Records Administration 10/2005 - 11/2005

I volunteered on a variety of projects, including configuring databases, helping genealogists locate records, and assisting other Archivists facilitate the arrangement and description of United States military records, territorial papers, and naturalization petitions.

King County Records, Elections, and Licensing Services Division 11/2004

I served as an election official during the General Election. I assembled voting booths, verified voters’ addresses, and assisted in the poll book safekeeping. At the end of the evening, I escorted the ballots with political party representatives to an offsite location.

Whatcom County Human Rights Task Force 04/2004 - 08/2004

Another graduate student and I arranged the organization’s records according to proper archival and records management principles. We also created a manual describing best practices for their unique set of records. This project helped me apply the philosophies learned from various courses at Western Washington University for a non-profit organization.

Mesa Verde National Park 04/2002 - 08/2002

I served as an Archive Technician during my internship. I appraised, arranged, described, and cataloged records for the National Parks Service. There was a large fire started by lightning, and as a result, I gained experience with disaster recovery, related security issues, and large-scale evacuations.

Western Washington University 09/2001 - 06/2003

During my enrollment at Western Washington University, I was a History Department teaching assistant. I led weekly discussions and taught a variety of classes to students with varying abilities and backgrounds.
