Grain runner/ tester

Bairds Malt, Scotland: Summer 2022

Driving around Perthshire, Stirling and Fife collecting grain samples from farmers. Taking the grain samples to the labs to be tested. I was trusted to work indiependatly at one of the sites testing and assessing incoming grain before it could be dried. This required me to make decisions which involved large financial impacts. Station work – Sheep husbandry, mustering, feeding, foot care, dosing and treating injured or ill sheep, tractor work, keeping the farm tidy.

Vet Assistant work – Travelling with veterinarians to various farms across New South Wales to assist with Merino artificial insemination which is a fast paced and expensive job. I also helped with semen collection, assisting with collecting blood samples, and met some great farmers.

Dairy Farm Assistant

Rangitata Dairies, Mowata One, New Zealand: February 2023 - May 2023 For three months I worked on an 850 head dairy farm with a mob grazing system and 60 bale rotary milking twice a day. My duties included milking the cows independently twice a day, setting the parlour up for milking, vat washes, cleaning the parlour down, detected cows with mastitis and treated them, maintained & repaired farm equipment, fed calves, cleaned pivots, plate metered, and finally I put up electric fences precisely using an app based on several factors. Completed several courses run by the British Association for Shooting and Conservation (BASC), including gun handling and safety. I hold a shotgun license which demonstrates I am trustworthy and mature. Successfully completed a DEFRA registered and LANTRA approved AI course. I completed a cookery and wine tasting course and listened to avalanche safety talks at Orchards the Award-winning Cookery School designed for Chalet Cookery Skills. Clean and full driving license since March 2019.

IT - fully capable with an extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes, including the use of styles and excel formulas.

H O B B I E S A N D I N T E R E S T

I regularly attend game shoots at Estates, clay-pigeon shoots and go beating throughout the shooting season. I have attended cooking classes at the Edinburgh School of Food & Wine to enhance my culinary skills. I was a participating and social member of the Agricultural and Clay Pigeon Society, at Newcastle University. This involved attending weekly sessions and being a part of a team. As well as travelling a lot of England to watch rugby/hockey matches against other universities and going to agricultural shows with friends. I like to go skiing with my family and I have been on university ski trips with friends. Active member of West Fife Young Farmers competing in cabaret, handicrafts and sports competitions.
