Mission of life : Since childhood, Rezaur Rahman never aspired to be in Civil Service which does not allow one to refrain from corruption. He was actively involved in childrens’ welfare, then performed a role in juvenile movement, gradually an active youth leader and ultimately a NGO and INGO activivist.

Vission : To see a world devoid of social and economic inequality, free from the danger of Nuclear war, end of poverty as ‘Poverty anywhere is a danger to prosperity everywhere’, absence of discrimination on consideration of Gender, Religion and colour and promotion of democratic principles all over the world

Rezaur Rahman was born in year 1937 on December 03. While a student of Class IX, he became a member of MUKUL FOUZ, a children’s organisation. As he had been writing articles and short stories in the Children’s pages of different Daily newspapers, he was given the responsibility of editing the mouthpiece of the movement ‘The MUKUL.’

Rezaur Rahman founded the SABUJ SENA (Green Soldiers), a juvenile movement in the year 1956 and acted as the Publisher of monthly Sabuj Sena, a children’s Magazine. In the year 1957-59.

Career in Journalism :

In the year 1962, Rezaur Rahman had entered the profession of journalism and served as the Editor of Fortnightly ‘The Balaka.’ The magazine was inaugurated by the then Law and Education Minister of Pakistan Late Barrister A. T. M. Mustafa. He was given the responsibility of editing fortnightly journal ‘JAGORONI’ published by the then Sub-divisional Administration of Narayanganj in the year 1963.

Rezaur Rahman graduated from the University of Dhaka in the year 1964 as a Journalist Private Candidate. During 1966 -68, Rezaur Rahman worked as a Staff Correspondent of the Pakistan Press International ( PPI ) now defunct. In the year 1969, he joined English Language Daily ‘The People’ as Chief Reporter and during the turbulent days of the liberation movement and the critical period following independence of Bangladesh, had served the daily . His assignment was the then Prime Minister and Founder of Bangladesh Bangobandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.. Rezaur Rahman was the Editor of an English Language Monthly entitled ‘NEW ERA’ during 1972-1974..His last assignment in journalism was with the Radio for Peace International as its Asian Bureau Chief during 1985-1990.

After retiring from active journalism, Rezaur Rahman continued to contribute articles on Contemporary affairs to different daily news papers and translated from English to Bangla articles written by Konosuke Matsushita of Japan (Not for Bread Alone) by Prof Charles Mercieca of USA on various world problems, Bishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa on Racial Discrimination and also the Book ‘We want you for Decent Service’ published by UN Voluntary Liaison Committee

WORKED ALSO AS A BUSINESS AND INDUSTRIAL PROJECTS CONSULTANT :

In between his professional and NGO activities, Rezaur Rahman also worked as a Business and Industrial Project Consultant. He completed the project of a leading Melamine Industrial Plant of Bangladesh. In the year 1998, Rezaur Rahman joined the SAARC-ASEAN Businessmen;s Forum as Executive Secretary and served until 2000.

He visited PR China as Business Advisor to an Industrial group

In 2001, 2002 & 2004, he visited Bosnia & Herzegovina and had stayed in Sarajevo for months together representing a Business Firm to explore exporting Jute Twine from Bangladesh. Representing Bangladesh Entrepreneurs, Rezaur Rahman also visited Hong Kong, Taiwan, the Philippines, Spain and Germany.

Rezaur Rahman had attended and participated at the following:

1.Two short Courses on Trade Union Leadership conducted by the International Confederation of Free Trade Unions (ICFTU) and the East Pakistan Federation of Labour held in Dhaka.

2.General Conference of the then Pakistan Council for Child Welfare held in Karachi, Pakistan in the year 1959.

3.Three month-long International Youth Leadership Course conducted by the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) held at ALOKA in Sri Lanka in 1957.

4.3rd General Conference of the World Assembly of Youth (WAY) held in New Delhi, India in 1958.

5.7th General Conference of the World Assembly of Youth ( WAY ) held in Manchester, UK in 1972.

6.International Seminar on ‘Youth and Development ‘held in Belgrade, Yugoslavia (now Serbia) in 1972.

7.An Internaional Seminar on Human Rights held in Vienna, Austria in 1973

8.First World Congress of Unesco Clubs held in Sendai, Japan in 1974.

9.Second World Congress of Unesco Clubs Associations held at the Unesco Head Quarter in Paris, France in 1978.(10.) Three month-long Familiarisation Course at the Unesco Head Quarter in Paris (11). Asian Regional Seminar on Disarmament held at the ESCAP head quarter in Bangkok, Thailand.(12). NGO Conference held simultaneously with the First Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO) held in Singapore (13). Six Regional Seminars on ‘Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy’ held in New Dehi, India during 1973—2005.

Involvement in NGO & INGO :

1. Founder Secretary General of SABUJ SENA, a juvenile movement ( 1956-60)

2. Secretary General of the Pakistan Conference of Social Work, an all-Pakistan Platform of social welfare agencies ( 1958-60 )

3. Founder Secretary -General of Bangladesh National Youth Council (1972-73)

4. Founder –Secretary General and then President of the United Nations Schools Organisation of Bangladesh (1972—till date).The Organisation has been engaged in the programme of Teaching about the United Nations by bringing out a Book entitled ‘ Questions and Answers on United Nations’ and by conducting General Knowledge Test on the UN for the secondary students. (17th Test in 2020 ). It also conducted a General Knowledge Test for the Secondary school students in observance of 50th Anniversary of the adoption of Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

5. Founder President of the National Federation of UNESCO Clubs and Associations in Bangladesh ( 1974-till date).

6. Had been a member of the 12 -Member Preparatory Committee for the Establishment of the World Federation of UNESCO Clubs, Associations and Centres and presided over its sessions held in Tokyo and Okinawa in 1980.

7. Had been President of ‘United Schools International’, an INGO, which was given the ‘UN Peace Messenger Award’ in the year 1984 and having Consultative Status with ECOSOC, FAO and UNICEF and relationship with UNESCO.

TRAVELS ABROAD:

Mainly for attending different international conferences and seminars, Rezaur Rahman visited India many times, Japan ( 9 times ), South Korea ( 2 times ), Singapore ( 2 times ) Malaysia ( 2 times ) U K ( 2 times ), France ( 2 times ), Austria ( 2 times ), USA for visiting UN Head Quarter, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong ( many times ) Taiwan, the Philippines, Spain, Germany and PR China.

Rezaur Rahman still has been active in NGO activities mainly for
