How to Use a Chromebook
Introduction
Welcome! This document is designed to set you up for success when you are getting started with your Chromebook. The Chromebook will be stored in each patient’s home and used to electronically submit your visit documentation. There are two types of Chromebook currently in the field. 2nd Generation Chromebook or Gen 2, will have a paired Mifi and 3rd Generation Chromebook or Gen 3, will have a built in LTE with a sim card.
Please read and review the document in its entirety. This should take you approximately 15 minutes to complete.

Getting Started with your Chromebook
Powering On
To turn on the Chromebook:
1. Make sure that the Chromebook is charged by plugging the charger into the port on either side of the computer, and then plugging the charger into a wall outlet.
2. Opening the LCD cover will automatically start the Chromebook. If it does not, press the power key on the right side of the computer. 5

Logging in to the Chromebook
Once the Chromebook is open, there will be two portals. The Patient Portal will be on the left for patients to access their myHP account. The Caregiver Portal will be on the right. Click on the Caregiver portal to access the Chromebook Enter the six digit PIN as 00+last 4
digits of patient’s MRN
ie. For Patient with MRN 123456, the
PIN will be 003456.
Do not click on “Switch to
Password”. If log on is asking for a
password, click on “Switch to PIN.” If
option not available, call service desk
for assistance with re-accessing the
PIN
Important Note:
“Caregiver PF….(Chromebook serial number)@maximhealthcare.com is the correct username and should not be changed by clicking on the arrow next to the username.
“Remove Account” will remove the caregiver portal and should be avoided 6

Setting Up The Network
The Gen 2 Chromebook will have a paired MiFi Jetpack set up in each patient’s home so that you are able to connect the Chromebook to the internet. The Gen 3 Chromebook will have a built in WiFi to connect to the internet. This device will not have a paired MiFi.
The Chromebook usually auto connect to the Verizon MiFi or Verizon Wireless Network. In case the network is not connected, follow steps below. You must be logged into the Chromebook to complete this process. Follow steps to logging into the Chromebook from Page 5.
Gen 2 Chromebook with Paired Jetpack
Setting Up the MiFi Jetpack
Each MiFi Jetpack will come with a charging cable that can plug into your computer or a wall outlet. Please make sure that the device is charged when attempting to use.
Note: You must set up your MiFi device or wireless network and connect your Chromebook to the Verizon network in order to use the Skilled Electronic Note application. This may automatically be set up already. 7

Powering On
Check to see if the Jetpack is on by quickly pressing and releasing the power button once. If the screen does not turn on hold the power button for about two seconds. The screen below is what it should like when the Jetpack is on. Checking Service and MiFi Connection
Top left of the MiFi screen shows the
service strength. This will be helpful
with troubleshooting the MiFi by
moving to areas with the strongest
connection.
Lower center of the MiFi screen, will
tell you if the Jetpack is connected to
the chromebook. It should say
“Primary - 1, Guest- 0”
Note: The Wi-Fi Name and Password is locked. The Jetpack is auto paired with the Chromebook and will not need to enter any password for the MiFi in the Chromebook.

Powering Off/Restart
Turn the Jetpack off at the end of the
shift, if no other nurse is relieving you
for the day or night.
press and hold the Power button for
about two seconds. The “Power Off”
options will show up. Using the touch
screen, select “Shutdown”
For troubleshooting with service
connection issues, you may also
“Restart” the Jetpack to refresh.

Connecting to the MiFi in Gen 2 Device
Click on the time on the right bottom
corner of the screen.
Click on “Not connected”.
The list of available network will pop
up.
Click on “Verizon- MiFi8800..”

Connecting to Mobile Data in Gen 3 Device
Click on the time on the right bottom
corner of the screen.
Click on “Not connected” or the WiFi
network name in case it is not
connected to Verizon Wireless.
Turn the toggle for “Mobile data” to
the right to turn it on
It will turn blue when on. This should
show “Verizon Wireless Connected”
once connection established
Turn off the “Wi-Fi” by moving the
Wi-Fi toggle to the left. This will keep
the Chromebook from connecting to
a Wi-Fi network if it does not pick up
the Verizon network right away.

Navigating the Chromebook
TRACKPAD
The Trackpad will act as your “mouse”. You will use it to move your cursor and select items on your Chromebook. CONTROL PANEL
Use the Control Panel
to adjust computer
settings, like
volume and
brightness.
APP LAUNCHER
The App Launcher
allows you to search
though all of your
Chromebook
applications.
SHELF
The Shelf provides quick
access so some frequently-
used applications.

Using the Trackpad
To move your cursor on the Chromebook, you will gently move 1 finger across the trackpad, which is located below your keyboard. To select something on the screen, you will “left-click” by pressing down on the trackpad with 1 finger.
To “right-click” on the trackpad, you will press down with 2 fingers at the same time.

To scroll using the trackpad, gently place 2 fingers on the trackpad and swipe either up or down.

Searching for Applications
Select the App Launcher icon in the bottom left corner to open up all of the applications on your Chromebook. To open an application, double-click on the appropriate icon using your trackpad.
You can also use the Search field at the top of the screen to search for a specific application.
Note: Some of the applications may be blocked even though they appear in your App Launcher menu. For applications that you use frequently, it is recommended that you pin them to your Shelf.

Managing your Shelf
The shelf allows you to quickly access commonly-used applications on your Chromebook. At any time, you can add or remove applications from the shelf by
“pinning” or “unpinning” them.
Pinning Applications
To pin applications to your
shelf, right-click (using two
fingers) on the appropriate
icon, and select the Pin to
shelf option.
Unpinning Applications
To unpin applications from
your shelf, right-click (using
two fingers) on the
appropriate icon, and select
the Unpin option.

Using the Control Panel
The Control Panel allows you to manage computer settings, along with other basic tasks. Some of the different options on the Control Panel include: 1. Signing out of the computer 5. Connecting to Wi-Fi 2. Shutting down the computer 6. Adjusting the volume 3. Locking the computer 7. Adjusting the brightness 4. Accessing the computer settings
Note: To lock the Chromebook, you can also press and hold the Lock key on the keyboard.

Chromebook Tablet Mode
A useful feature of the Chromebook is its touchscreen, and its ability to transform into a tablet. To transform the Chromebook into a tablet, bend the screen backwards over the hinges (see below for demonstration). 18

Need Help?
If you are experiencing technical issues with the Chromebook or MiFi Jetpack device, please contact your local office for assistance. If it is outside of your office’s operating hours, please contact the Service Desk. If you are with a patient when the issues arise, and you are unable to resolve the issues in a timely manner, please proceed by filling out the paper visit documentation. After completing the documentation, use the MaximCare Mobile application to submit a photograph so that your timesheets and visit details will be properly recorded.
The Service Desk phone number is on the sticker on top on the Chromebook and on the desk top screen when you are logged in to the chromebook.
