My goal is to be involved with a company where I can add to the profitability of the company. Better estimating practices, project management of time and money, subcontractor relations, and customer service all benefit the overall value of the company.

Introduction

I was most recently employed at Magleby Construction, working as a senior estimator. Magleby is a high-end residential builder in Utah. At Magleby, 100% of my time was devoted to up-scale residential homes and remodels. These homes were typically wood frame construction with some steel and concrete, where required to meet the structural requirements. These homes ranged in dollar value from 3.5 million to 13 million dollars.

Previously I was employed at Roen and Associates in Seattle, WA. Here our work was mainly focused on third party government required commercial pre-construction services. The projects were typically new school, elementary to secondary, and most of the schools were single level frame construction. There were some secondary projects that involved medium to high rise construction in the Seattle area. These buildings ranged on the low end of 15 million dollars to larger school districts where the buildings were above 60 million dollars.

I was involved as an estimator for venues in Park City Utah Olympics in 2002. I was able to work in the bobsled run, luge run and several supporting venues.

Earlier in my career I worked as an estimator on projects with very limited in scope such as casework in the Salt Lake Marriot Hotel which had a value of 786,000 dollars and eventually pushed over the 900,000-dollar range with the additional work requested by the owners.

November 2021 to Present

Responsible for design build process for new facility.

Prepared Schematic Design estimate which created the initial budget for the project.

Wrote custom estimating software specifically for the Castello Verde project.

Worked with Architect and Engineering on design of facility and cost for all improvements.

Prepared Design Development estimate to ensure the design was inline with the proposed budget of the owner.

Worked with alternate energy providers to incorporate wind and solar as a part of the overall power consumption of the project.

Prepared Construction Documents Estimate with hard bids from sub-contractors to be used for contracts.

Residential Estimator-Magleby Construction, Lindon, Utah

August 2020 to November 2021

Head of the Residential Remodel department responsible for generating estimates for each phase of the remodel.

Met with architects and interior designers to determine scope of work.

Met with clients to determine budget allowances.

Using Sage/Timberline estimating program, professional estimates of costs including hard costs, soft costs, escalation, and contractor costs.

Presented the budget to the client for final approval.

Hand off completed scope of work, budget estimates and contracts with subcontractors to project managers and project engineers.

Estimator-Roen and Associates, Seattle, Washington

August 2018 to September 2019

For 100% of the time, I wrote commercial estimates. Roen is a third-party architectural firm that provides commercial estimates used to keep Design Architects in line with state approved budgets.

The only requirement was the engineer’s estimate that I prepared needed to be at least 3% above the lowest bidder on the project, otherwise the project would need to be rebid.

Using the RS Means system of costs, I prepared estimates for commercial projects.

Using Microsoft Excel and the core, the estimating process was continually being modified or customized to meet the needs of the clients.

Estimator/Project Manager Southwest Desert Development

August 2007-January 2017

Developed a 536 lot, low-income housing project.

Was responsible for overseeing the estimates for the entire project which included engineering costs, civil costs, construction, and sales costs.

Developed budgets, bid packages, contracts, Letters of Intent and Purchase Contracts.

Worked with Architects to design housing in the affordable range to satisfy government grant writers.

1996-2007

Acting as general contractor, our company, built midrange custom homes from Logan, Utah to St, George Utah

Managed the construction from inception to completion including all estimating, contracting, sales and warrantee work.

Bid Oversight/Project Manager Hoyal Construction American Fork Utah

1990-1996

Hoyal Construction was a Hard Bid General Contractor doing work for the commercial industry, local churches, and the federal government.

I was responsible for compiling the bids and overseeing their correctness.

Managed 6-8 projects in the 1–3-million-dollar range at one time.

Updated bids and prepared hand-off to project superintendent.
