COMPOSITE / STRUCTURE ASSEMBLY / SURFACE PREP SKILLS Hand layup, cut and trim materials in preparation of kits, clean, prep, and application of various releases on molds and tools such as Frekote 44, Teflon, and water-based release systems. Use and operation of ovens and autoclaves for final cure. Perform repairs such as overlaps & butt splicing. Blend composite repairs by shaving Uni-directional C/EP material. The use of pre-preg carbon epoxy fabric weave, pre-preg carbon epoxy uni-directional tape, pre-preg fiberglass, and honeycomb cores. Heat press machine to seal kits, pre-heat tools with heat guns, various vacuum bagging techniques and concepts for layup according to the paperwork. Utilize supportive and non-supportive film adhesives for secondary bonding. Debagging and deburring. Use of die-grinder for sanding and removal of composite material to ensure the finished part conforms to set parameters. Hand precision drilling with pneumatic drill motors, drill blocks/guides, clecos, layout, reaming, and countersinking for various fasteners and rivets in composite and metal materials. Torque wrenches, jigs, safety wiring and installation of Click Bond nutplates. HVLP paint spray gun setup, usage, and cleaning. Alodine/Chemfilm. Eddie Bolt installation. Manufacturing Safety, Shop Math, and Precision Measurements with emphasis on the use and reading of dial calipers, micrometers, and machinist scales. Reading and interpretation of engineering drawings (blueprints), specifications, planning paperwork, travelers, and electronic work instructions (EWI).
Metal and Composite surface prep such as cleaning, scraping, sanding, and grinding parts by hand or using pneumatic tools to tight tolerances. Removing excess adhesives, debris, primer or squeezed out materials. Knowledge of application of various paint or coatings and/or finishes with even distribution of product. FOD awareness. Adherence to project planning at all times. Use all appropriate PPE.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows Word, Excel and PowerPoint and other general computer/internet skills that may be required in a workplace. ADDITIONAL KEY COMPETENCIES
Experience with a variety of pneumatic, electric, and hand tools. Extensive automotive repair and troubleshooting experience. Moderate carpentry experience. Media blasting for automotive engine repair.
