Watch/Shift commander- Lieutenant:

As watch/shift commander I am responsible for overseeing watch/shift operations in Housing Authority Police Departments, evaluating departmental cases, cooperating in law enforcement investigations, monitoring internal activities, and ensuring the safety and security for all of wash dc housing authority premises. As watch/shift commander I also enforce rules and regulations for everyone's strict compliance, inspect housing authority department facilities, and identify serious offenses. They also confiscate violating items, document any evidence for further investigation. As commander/lieutenant I have excellent leadership skills, as well as extensive knowledge of the law regulations to maintain the

credibility and integrity of housing authority operations. As watch/shift commander I am responsible for supervising traffic services under my tour of duty, such as accident investigation work, enforcement patrol work, parking control work, and any other traffic work as ordered by the chief of housing authority police department.

As watch/shift I supervise subordinates in conforming to the rules, regulations, and orders of the department, as well as proper attendance. I also supervise the conformance with plans and procedures ordered by the Deputy chief and chief of police, and investigate complaints, as ordered by both.

As lieutenant supervisor officer procedures which will include desk procedure, the making of daily attendance sheets, and current entering of activity report information as ordered by both deputy chief and chief. I also check reports and citations for clerical correctness, before being forwarded to the deputy chief desk, and any errors or omissions found will be brought to the attention of the original reporting officer.

As commander/lieutenant, on my tour of duty, I am responsible for the preparation of reports and the necessary notifications as covered in department rules, regulations, and orders. I am also responsible for conducting roll call and notifying squad operator of vehicles available for use in the various traffic functions. My other responsibilities are to ascertain that all department property, vehicles, vehicular equipment, and buildings are properly safeguarded and cared for, as per department rules, regulations, and orders. I oversee surveys and investigations as assigned by the deputy chief and chief of police, ensure the booking of prisoners arrested by my subordinates. As commander/lieutenant I make daily personnel and equipment assignments, making temporary emergency changes as necessary. I also make assignments to desk or office duty on his shift, subject to the approval of the deputy chief and chief.

As watch/shift commander, I submit recommendations to the deputy chief or chief concerning discipline, transfer, or change of duty. The chain of command for the rank of lieutenant is such that I report to and take orders from the deputy chief of police and the chief of police, and I authority over, control of, and supervision of sergeants, patrol officers, and other employees on his shift.

Shift supervisor- Sergeant:

As shift supervisor/sergeant I was responsible for exacting the proper performance of police duties from the members of the department assigned to my command; the enforcement of all laws, rules, regulations, and orders of the department; and to ensure the proper conduct and appearance of the members of the department assigned to my supervision. As sergeant I perform my duties and responsibilities in conformance with the provisions provided by administration, regulations, and standard operating procedure of Washington DC Housing Authority. Serves as a shift supervisor for the D.C. Housing Authority/Office Public Safety with responsibility for the supervision of supplemental police services to residents and staff of the DCHA.

I am Responsible for the deployment of police/security personal assigned to the shift; schedules and makes assignments to staff consistent with, and in furtherance of the Authority’s Comprehensive Security Plan.

I monitor field performance of Authority police/security personnel, building monitors and private security personnel contracted with the Authority to ensure compliance with governing laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.

Investigates complaints generated by residents and staff regarding public safety issues, conducts continuous security needs assessments at public housing sites to evaluate work force deployment, and conducts daily intelligence gathering prior to rollcall to facilitate the assignment of personnel.
