L3 Communications, Stratis, Reston Virginia 1997 – September 2011

Senior Systems Administrator (Pentagon, 2008 - 2011) - I provided support for the U.S. Army’s ITA Datacenter Center (ITA-DC) as a LAN Administrator. My primary responsibilities include managing and maintaining ITA-DC monitoring and alerting solutions for the Army’s Information Management Center (IMCEN) and its supported agencies. IMCEN is currently utilizing several monitoring and alerting solutions including scripted alerts (PowerShell, AutoIt, VBScript, Command-line, etc.), AlchemyEye, SNMPc, Hypersoft OmniAnalyser, Windows Performance Monitor and Microsoft System Center Operations Manager (SCOM) 2007. I am currently in the process of integrating these various solutions into a single solution under SCOM 2007 and PowerShell. I perform Network and Email management, and continue to provide consulting support for IMCEN’s Backup Team. Additionally, I have created websites for both the monitoring and backup teams. I remain a consultant for the Uberboot CD (as described in the Senior Network Administrator section below) for the IMCEN Tier II Helpdesk.

Network Administrator (Pentagon, 2003 - 2008) - I provided support for the U.S. Army’s Information Management Center (IMCEN) as a LAN Administrator. As the Backup Team Lead, my primary responsibilities included managing the backup team’s four other members and maintaining backups and data recovery for the Army Pentagon. My first major project was to migrate IMCEN’s backup architecture from VERITAS Network Storage Enterprise (NSE) to the CommVault Galaxy backup solution. This entailed completely replacing all of the backup servers, configuring the tape libraries, DataDomain VTL’s (with de-duplication) and fiber channel routers. I managed four of the major revision upgrades for Commvault Galaxy (later Simpana) as in-place upgrades with minimal impact to the production environment. I worked with Commvault personnel to improve software performance; some of my recommendations were added to later versions of Commvault. As the team lead, I also provided training and instruction to my team members on the intricacies of recovery software, storage area networks, data de-duplication, VTLs and CIFS backups

Additionally, as a member of the enterprise support group I also assisted in the planning and configuration of many of IMCEN’s 2000/2003 servers, performed LAN and Email account management, and resolved LAN/WAN connectivity issues working with other network administrators. I completed the migration of the Army G-1 agency into management under IMCEN and assisted with migration events for other agencies. My other responsibilities included managing the network team as well as the entire helpdesk during the project manager’s absence. When I joined the G-1 LAN team I inherited an unstable LAN that averaged three to- four major outages weekly. I set out and rebuilt the entire LAN environment, added a Technical Library server, a CD Jukebox Info-server and monitoring servers. During my remaining tenure there were only five network outages, four caused by age-related hardware failures and one by the terrorist attack on the Pentagon.

Prior to August 2001, I managed and oversaw the migration of the entire G-1 LAN to a new server farm in the newly reconstructed wedge of the Pentagon. This entailed using new equipment to duplicate our existing configuration. My staff and I were able to complete this in just over four months with no downtime for the end-users. After the September 11th attack, my team recovered our LAN equipment from the server farm and reestablished a fully functional LAN at an offsite location. Within four months my team was able to reintegrate our LAN equipment back into its permanent residence in the Pentagon. My other duties included assisting IMCEN’s Depot Services Manager by administering their tech server and by developing and maintaining a modified 32-bit bootable CD which was called the “Uberboot CD” This disk provided Workstation and Network support across multiple hardware platforms for in-field technicians.

Depot Services Manager (Pentagon, 1998 - 1999) - I provided support for the U.S. Army’s Information Management Support Center (IMCEN) as the supervisor of the Installation and Configuration (IC) Team consisting of three Sr. Depot Technicians. My duties included coordinating and supervising the imaging, configuration, delivery and installation of new and reconfigured systems in a network environment at end user locations. I was responsible for ensuring proper integration of various software applications into an IMCEN standard-load configuration and development of the configurations for various operating systems and hardware platforms as well as the proper imaging of these configurations using approved imaging software such as GHOST. Additionally, I ensured proper inventory accountability for incoming and displaced equipment. I also provided system administration on various Test-lab Novell and NT servers.

Networking & Systems Specialist (Pentagon, 1997 - 1998) - I provided support as a computer specialist troubleshooting hardware and software problems and providing network and help desk support for end user requirements.
