*In Salah Gas project (ISG) is a Mega project joint venture between: Sonatrach, BP (British Petroleum) Eni, and Equinor (Ex Statoil), producing 9bn cubic metres of market ready gas from fields located in the desert of Central Algeria. It is one of the country’s largest dry gas joint venture projects.

Key Roles & Responsibilities

My roles include but not limited to the following:

Responsible to oversee all Health, Safety and Environment issues during all project lifecycle phases carried out by projects operations and construction team. Ensuring that all site HSE requirements are fully met, in particular to ensure that the HSE Policy, “no accidents, no harm to people, no damage to the environment” is strictly observed.

Advising management and promoting a positive health and safety culture and securing the implementation of health and safety policy during all projects phases ensuring implementation and effectiveness of HSE management system requirements for projects and department.

Planning for health and safety including the setting of realistic short and long term objectives, deciding priorities and establishing adequate systems and performance standards

Day to day implementation and monitoring of policy and plans including accident and incident investigation, reporting, analysis and record keeping

Conduct and coordinate on-site inspections to audit physical conditions and safe work practices and analyze injury, incident, property damage and work with management to prepare comprehensive recommendations.

Liaise with relevant disciplines engineers in order to ensure HSE related legal requirements are fully met

Developing and implementing company’s standard specifications for safety, IOGP lifesaving rules & fire prevention, protection and intervention equipment in line with latest changes in codes, standards & statutory requirements (NFPA, OSHA, HSE executive. etc.) and ratified conventions especially with ILO

Assist with preparation of the technical safety scope of work from the overall project scope of work providing safety input to the project design and raise site queries SQ when needed

Reviewing performance and internally auditing both company safety and environmental management systems (ISO45001 – ISO 14001) and assisting external certification audits

Managing contractors to confirm they effectively implement HSE Plans and adhere to control of work (CoW, PTW) system, JSA, tool box meetings, PPE wearing, housekeeping and waste management

Preparing and regularly reviewing company Task Risk Assessment TRA, Fire Risk Assessment FRA, COSHH analysis and H&S procedures in line with national legislation and international standards or after an accident

Developing training materials providing coaching and awareness training on safety matters for employees and contractors

Assessing emergencies prior to intervention ensuring the site emergency response team (ERT) readiness and assisting in the development of emergency drill scenarios (including airfield operations) and conduct site emergency mock drills, in order to check readiness for emergencies.

Being visible demonstrating extensive leadership skills and Maintaining positive working relationships with regulators and emergency services, contractors and local authorities to ensure mutual support and adherence to HSE compliance requirements.

Conducting gas testing and train safety watchman in conducting gas test periodically

Performing any other duties which the line manager may require to be carried out.
