Small PRs > Faster Reviews > Faster Cycle Time
I am an engineering advocate promoting the DORA principle of Small PRs, Faster Reviews, and Faster Cycle Time. I prioritize operational excellence to ensure that all aspects of software development meet high standards and align with business objectives. As a proven director of engineering, I analyze SDLC data to identify inefficiencies and prioritize tasks essential for success. I drive success through predictable project delivery, programmable workflows, business goals and reporting, resource allocation, and an engineering metrics program.
PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
SCOOT • Dallas, TX • 2023 to Present.
Accelerate business and increase sales by transforming your most important virtual meetings into immersive, ultra-engaging experiences. Director of Engineering
As the overseer of operational excellence, I ensure that all aspects of software development meet high standards and align with our business objectives. My engineering teams prioritize tasks essential for our success, and they achieve this by analyzing our SDLC data to identify inefficiencies and ensure better alignment with our business needs. We use benchmarking to gain industry insights and better understand our metrics, which helps us set data-driven improvement goals that drive operational and business success. Our success began with visibility and continues with our strategy to achieve tangible, data-backed goals.
Hired and ran a team of 16 engineers, broken into four self-managing Agile Pods (DevOps, Quality Assurance, WEB, and iOS).
Set improvement goals by mentoring, not monitoring.
Pinpointed bottlenecks with data segmentation.
Led team improvement, achieved through metrics about the work, the process, and the business, not the individual.
Continued to meet the dual mandate of engineering leaders: continue delivering operational excellence while simultaneously driving the business forward.
Used DORA metrics to identify areas for improvement. Measured their progress, compared themselves to other teams, and improved the overall quality of the software.
Drove success through predictable sprint delivery, programmable workflows, business goals & reporting, resource allocation, and engineering metrics program.
I demonstrated integrity and practical communication skills while collaborating with other departments to mitigate risks, delegating tasks, and ensuring successful sprint completion.
I observed, coached, and facilitated effective communication and alignment among teams responsible for product development, architecture, and engineering.
As a highly efficient and healthy Engineering team, we are guided by principles, values, and beliefs that define our character and spirit. Our foundation reflects our commitment to product development and delivery excellence, which is achieved through:
o Commitment to Quality
o Predictable Execution
o Innovation and Continuous Improvement
o Collaboration and Teamwork
o Ownership and Accountability
o User-Centric Approach
o Balancing Speed and Quality
o Learning and Growth
o Ethical and Responsible Practices
o Transparency and Communication

WEBINAR.NET • Pleasanton, CA • 2019 to 2023.
A thriving start-up providing the first fully cloud-hosted webinar presentation platform loaded with self-service, enterprise-level features. Senior Engineering Manager and Head of Product Management I designed a top-of-the-line webinar creation tool and business strategy that allowed my company to compete with well- established enterprise webinar platforms. Before this, I co-led a successful virtual environment company that catered to high- paying clients and required content-heavy projects. However, I later created a fully self-sufficient webinar presentation platform entirely cloud-based - the first of its kind. This platform saw a surge in demand during the pandemic as people sought reliable and accessible virtual communication options. As a result, my company's revenue increased from zero to $6.7 million within 17 months.
Led engineering, advancing in 25 months from prototype to a high-quality marketplace product by late 2019. Worked closely with the infrastructure team to ensure stability and cost savings.
Hired, grew, and led two transparent, highly effective, and efficient self-managing Scrum teams—8 engineers based in China and 8 engineers based in Colombia, focusing on reducing technical debt.
Led the strategy for technology platforms, partnerships, and external relationships to increase the company’s efficiency and reduce costs.
Kept current with emerging technologies and technology development methodologies; assured leadership and staff have the necessary talent and skills to perform at a high level.
Demonstrated high integrity and practical interpersonal communication skills while partnering cross-departmentally to solve timeline risks while effectively delegating to and managing teams to achieve deadlines and be accountable for success.
Observed, coached, and facilitated effective communication and alignment among product, architecture, and engineering teams.
Assisted the product, engineering, and scrum teams during regular ceremonies: feature review, grooming, sprint plans, and demos by being the voice of the customer and communicating the value behind each product and prioritization decision.
6CONNEX • Pleasanton, CA • 2014 to 2019.
A leading provider of virtual event solutions, offering a cloud-based product portfolio of in-person event apps, virtual venues, webinars, and more Senior Engineering Manager and Head of Product Management I acquired a company that came with only one employee and one customer. I noticed the potential of creating web-based, virtual venue access on mobile devices, especially with the growing popularity of the iPad. I partnered with two of my lifelong friends, and we worked on improving the 6Connex product, moving it from a .net Flash platform to a more device-friendly Java HTML5 platform. We relaunched the product and focused on achieving both short-term and long-term business goals, which helped us grow the company to 65 employees and eventually a successful exit in 2019.
Responsible for new product introductions, pricing, forecasting, positioning, promotion, crafting and delivering training and customer presentations, and significant commercial deal involvement.
Worked with other product line members (e.g., scopes and software) to create cross-organizational alignment to prioritize and create differentiated solutions. Partnered with engineering to define detailed product requirements and eliminate blockers.
Drove the product development process from discovery to delivery, partnering with engineering and user experience to discover and build solutions to our customers' problems.
Worked with development teams to provide detailed guidance and prioritization during the product development process in an Agile environment. Consistently created, maintained, prioritized, and sequenced the team backlog according to business value and existing commitments.
Worked with product marketing to define positioning, plan, and execute releases, and launch new features and products. Evaluated product performance metrics, usage data, and market trends to refine the opportunity space continually.
Owned the complete product lifecycle of software and hardware solutions from new product definition through launch and growth while handling the existing portfolio of products.
