I carried out a clerical role in a property management company My main responsibilities included:

• Dealing with customers face to face and on the phone

This work experience allowed me to enhance my organisation, communication and administration skills in a team environment, it has also given me a huge insight into working productively in a busy environment. Furthermore, I was able to communicate well with customers to ensure that their concerns and queries were addressed.

Work placement in an accountancy practice over the summer My main duties were the following:

• Filing

• Calling clients and requesting accounts information

• Working with clients and communication across the team I worked in

• Credit control duty by negotiating payment plans and requesting any amounts due

• Assisting in maintaining accurate financial records This placement further familiarised me with the basic practises carried out in an accountancy firm. Since I have studied A-Level accounting, it ensured my understanding of what it meant to work in an accounting practice. Moreover, I was able to develop many competencies from this such as effective communication which was necessary when working with clients and critical thinking by analysing and evaluating matters from different perspectives.

Brand Finance Apprentice

Apprenticeship at an FMCG company

My day-to-day roles included:

• Reporting and carrying out financial analysis of performance for products launched and prelaunch

• Working closely with the Brand teams in the Sweet Treats category to ensure they were given full financial insight to projects

• Accompaniment and engagement in internal meetings such as Category Board Meetings and Gate Meetings

• Assisting in project management with the cross-functional teams across the Sweet Treats category working on Mr Kipling, Cadbury Cakes and Plantastic

• Working on upcoming innovation projects which included new product development as well as existing product development as well as confidence working with the P&Ls

• Preparation of Finance presentation decks

• Decision-making situations using financials and data to support the proposed next steps, using my findings to report back to the relevant teams

• Using different software such as Excel, SAP ERP, BOBJ, Pyramid Analytics etc

• Working alongside the wider teams and building relations across the company

• Providing ad hoc support to wider teams when required I joined as an Apprentice in Finance and as this was my first role in an FMCG company, I learnt a lot during the apprenticeship. This was a great opportunity for me to develop commercial awareness as there were many projects, I was involved in. The fast-paced environment meant that there was always something to do which gave me a lot of exposure to how an FMCG company operates. I particularly enjoyed working on famous brands such as Mr Kipling and Cadbury Cakes. Overall, this experience has allowed me to develop my expertise in this area including analytical skills and attention to detail which was a crucial part of assessing the performance of projects, working with P&Ls and large amounts of data as well as effective collaboration and teamwork which was a vital part of working well with others in order to achieve a common goal.

Trade Planning Assistant

Temporary role as an Assistant in the Trade Planning & Events team at a blue-chip retailer My main duties included:

• Providing support in managing the trade plan and feature space across the Fresh products in order to maximise sales in the division

• Applying insight and customer understanding to feature space planning to support space optimisation, sales and customer perception

• Project management and trade planning for planned promotions and events and championing the feature space principles to ensure trade activity meets the relevant criteria

• Working closely with cross functional teams such as category, retail, marketing, customer and many more to ensure successful execution of the trade plans

• Closely assessing competitors Promotions & Events by visiting other stores to determine opportunities for growth or potential threats to the business

• Competitor pricing reviews to check all pricing is competitive prelaunch

• Weekly trade data and commentary for the Fresh division

• Regularly overlooking trade plans and updating with changes requested by Category teams

• Collating data to support analysis and review of promotion and space performance, looking for trends and making recommendations for improving the business including launch reports

• Owning the feature space plan for Integrals and the POS plan for all Fresh feature space

• Contributing to ad-hoc cross functional projects in a timely manner This role introduced me to the function of a Commercial Product Team at Britain’s largest supermarket chain. It has allowed me to further enhance my commercial experience as well as my customer focus skills which are significant factors in this industry. During the role, I developed a deeper understanding of what was necessary to ensure projects were all to plan. Furthermore, having worked in this sector, I have been able to understand the importance of commercial awareness in order to drive a company’s status in the industry it operates in and improve customer perception. Through my experience in this role and being part of a central team, I have had the opportunity to develop my confidence in clearly conveying points to several audiences, elevating my stakeholder management and influencing experience as well as being a good listener which aided my ability to understand matters in problem-solving situations. Willingness to learn- I seek out opportunities to increase my understanding of the work I am given by taking in continuous feedback and applying it to new skills. This way, I can ensure I will add value to the teams I work with so that I can become more proficient in my role. Teamwork- I help and make the effort to work well with others in a team by being aware of the impact I have on them. I very much like to contribute to activities and discussions that I attain sufficient knowledge of, by communicating my opinions and thought process while taking into account the views of my colleagues. I understand that this is vital when working with others to achieve the business’ best interest. This is done by actively building relationships with others across the company. Creativity- From my previous experience, I had the opportunity to work on various projects which helped me develop an innovative mindset and think outside the box. Analytical skills- I enjoy working with data as I often pay attention to detail. I have been able to enhance this skill by acknowledging trends, patterns and looking out for anomalies in problem solving situations. Based on this, I would assist in decision making which would result in a logical and reasonable outcome. Personal responsibility- I plan and think things out logically before acting upon them and I will ask for assistance when necessary. This includes taking accountability for my work while having a positive approach towards any inconsistencies which may arise and ensuring my full understanding when completing my day-to-day tasks.

Software skills- I am a competent user of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Furthermore, I have had experience using more complex systems such as SAP ERP, Pyramid Analytics and SAP BusinessObjects for the purposes of analysing and reporting. I believe it is important to look for new ways to make my work style and methods more efficient when aiming to work to a high level of proficiency.
