Working at NOMS Podiatry has broadened my medical skills and knowledge. I handle all the referrals coming into the office and will send them out when needed. I also keep updates with patient and the facility we referred the patient too, requesting progress notes exc. I check on CPT codes with diagnosis codes with insurance companies every day. I call about 30-40 insurance companies a day to see if certain durable medical equipment, radiology testing, in office procedures, outpatient hospital surgeries and ambulatory surgical centers are covered under the patient’s insurance plan. If a code requires a prior authorization, I handle the clinical office visit notes, and any additional information required for the prior authorization depending on the company that it will go through. If it requires a Peer to Peer, I will schedule that or an appeal. I figure out costs for the patient and let the patient know. If the patient wishes to proceed, I will schedule the appointment and let the clinical staff know. If an MRI, XRAY, CT scan or other testing is needed, I also check on that and schedule that for the patient. I schedule all the surgeries for the Podiatrists. I review the patient's information, including pre-surgical testing, the surgery date, post- ops, and how much the surgery will cost out of pocket with the patient. I then schedule the surgeries at the surgical center or at the hospital. I send out the orders of the presurgical testing to the patients desired location. I send the entire surgery packets including consents to the surgery center or hospital prior to the patient having surgery. I have access to many insurances' online portals, Trizetto, Availity and many more. I also fill out all the paperwork required for any type of benefit or surgery that is scheduled.
