Personal Statement

Ambitious English Literature Postgraduate seeking full time work as an English Teacher. I am a strong communicator with excellent IT skills, possess the ability to follow detailed and specific instructions, and have plenty of enthusiasm. I have also completed a 120-hour Premier Online TEFL Course.

Key Modules

Introduction to Literary Research: Ability to read, comprehend and analyse a variety of literature in many forms. Developing findings from research to then contextualise within a broader social scope, offering new insights.

Key Skills

Organisation: Collected and complied research for seminar debates, converting these engagements to produce stronger arguments and conclusions, whilst managing all deadlines. Adaptable to many variants of written tasks.

Teamwork: Active participation within group discussions involving the formulation of complex arguments and a specialist level of intellectual understanding of topics. The ability to engage with a range of points of view in a professional manner was required.

Communication Skills: Developed strong abilities to clearly express my ideas through participation in classroom seminars, as well as articulating these in essays and oral presentations.

Copy editing wires of local and global news articles.

Working to daily deadlines to meet press schedule.

Designing page layout using InDesign publishing software.

September 2022 – July 2023: English Language Teacher (Hess International Educational Group)

Teaching written and spoken English to students aged 3 - 15 in Taiwan.

Planning lessons, organising lesson materials, using games and creativity to make the learning experience engaging, fun, and interactive for my students.

Marking homework, quizzes, tests, reports, along with participating in school events.

May 2022 – July 2022: Academic Mentor (Churchward School)

Working as a mentor with SEN Secondary School students on a 1:1 basis.

Tutoring students in GCSE English, boosting their confidence in the subject, and helping them to catch up with gaps in their learning created by the Covid pandemic.

Used my voice and perspective as representative and on behalf of all participants from local area, with an aim of establishing better future courses. Attended trustee boardroom meetings to achieve this.

Utilised past experience as a previous participant of the course for research.

August 2014 – April 2015: Volunteer (Phoenix Enterprises - Pro Bono)

Worked alongside people in unemployment, financial difficulties, as well as people with mental health issues.

Worked with medium sized mail orders, packaging products as required.

Occasional supervision of a small team, which included replenishing stock piles and maintaining team morale.
