Clinical Research Nurse (This is a federal job)

Duties, Accomplishments and Related Skills:

Planed and managed care for patients in multiple specialties. Mastered and maintains competence in all relevant nursing skills and in the use of associated technology for multiple clinical programs. Taught these skills to less experienced nursing staff and other colleagues. Served as unit or program preceptor for new staff and assured competency of less experienced nurses. Accurately and appropriately administered medications. Used resources to validate purpose, indication and intended outcome for medications, treatments and research procedures.

Skillfully assessed complex and sensitive health education needs in individual research participant populations with like conditions, protocols or other characteristics. Provided teaching to research participants and family regarding study participation, participant’s current clinical condition, and/or disease process. Provided education to patients/significant others as evidenced by: individualized teaching, use of available resources and modifying teaching methods to achieve the highest level of learning.

Supported biomedical research through detailed observations, measurements, and data collection related to pertinent assessments as defined by the protocol specifications and expert clinical judgment. Accurately documented observations, identified and evaluated trends and important findings, and effectively communicated this information to the multidisciplinary research teams and nursing colleagues. Performed as protocol manager for various protocols. Administered research interventions accurately and precisely, collected patient data according to protocol specifications and evaluated patient’s response to therapy. Responded to variances in protocol implementation and reported them to the research team. Documented and communicated specified research observations in a timely manner.

Independently and effectively set priorities and organized complex assignments and unit activities. Developed and provided leadership, facilitation, and group management skills to teams and identified opportunities for collaborative projects and practices. Performed delegated administrative and committee tasks and identified administrative issues among staff in the practice areas. Demonstrated effective delegation to support staff. Effectively used and followed the chain of command in resolving clinical and operational issues. Served as a Charge Nurse and Unit Coordinator. Supervised staff of up to nine on shift as Charge Nurse. Assisted in updating wound care standards of practice documents. Assisted in caregiver support group for patients and caregivers on unit. Representative for education committee for shared governance. Taught Code Blue classes for over ten years to fellow nurses. Was an expert unit resource for IV insertions, wound care, tracheostomies and feeding tubes. Was a “Super User Resource”, a title for someone who took training on new equipment and taught other, for equipment such as IV pumps, pain pumps, medicine carts, etc. Created patient teaching booklets for various post operative procedure expectations for patient/family learning.
