As a mental health tech. I am responsible for children, adolescents and young adults who present with behavioral, emotional and psychiatric challenges. My responsibilities include overseeing hygiene and medication receival as well as assisting, supporting, and instructing individuals with self-help coping skills and positive behavioral interventions outlined in their clinical treatment plan. I ensure that everyone is safely engaged in daily programs such as recreational and social activities that enhance their social skill development. My responsibility also included addressing and redirecting inappropriate behaviors of individuals and occasionally providing 1 to 1 supervision of individuals who present a danger to themselves as well as others. As a PCT I worked on the Med-Surg unit where I am responsible for the care of patients who have had surgery or are recovering from other medical conditions. I am responsible for taking vital signs, assisting with baths and meals. My responsibilities include the collection of blood work, urine and stool samples as well as the removal of foley catheters and med lock’s. The placement and removal of telemetry boxes as well as getting ekg’s and recording the output of JP drains, colostomy and ostomy bags were all a part of my daily task. I would also sit with patients who were on a 1:1 safety protocol.

I would transport patients to and from therapy and also assist the therapist with patient exercise. At the end of the day I was also responsible for the cleaning and restocking of used equipment and preparing the unit for the next day’s use.
