I work on the neuroscience floor located inside children’s hospital my patients vary from the ages newborn to 20 years old my duties are performing CHG baths on any patient that has central lines or foley cath. Here I am able to suction patients when needed due to respiratory issues. Charting during required rounds. During rounds I take vitals which range from getting blood pressures, glucose readings, temp, HR, Respirations and O2 levels. Also when completing my rounds I make sure each patient is safe clean and in a comfortable position. Working here you have to be CPI trained (Crisis Prevention intervention ) this teaches us how to safely put our patients in therapeutic holds ranging from low medium and high. Also preventing escalation and aggre have to work with behavioral health patients with mental issues of all sorts and helping them be able to cope and get better is a number one priority of our duties when dealing with BH patients

Working at an acute care hospital comes with a lot of responsibilities. As soon as I clock in I start tending to my assigned patients. I am assigned a maximum of 8 patients. I have At least 3-5 patients to bed bathe which consisted of a regular bed bath or Foley catheter cleansing and/or a CHG bath. Transferring to showers on scheduled days were a priority also. Another form of hygiene that will have to be done is changing, burping and replacing an ostomy bag. My duties also consisted of applying wound vacs. To pressure wounds and openings of the skin Changing dressing getting a blood glucose and vitals on my patients and being able to recognize when my patients are in a critical state. There are times where I'm put in situations where I have to do compressions on patients call staff assists and codes. Most of my patients who receive care from me are on ventilators or trach collars. That being said I am also faced with the task of having to mobilize those patients twice a day which ranges from a lateral transfers, Hoyer lifts, stand pivots and more.
