FERNBANK SCIENCE CENTER 12/2001-Present

Administrative Assistant for the Special Programs such as the Scientific Tools & Techniques program, Advanced Studies program, Lockheed Martin Aviation Camp, instructors, coordinator and the director.

My primary duties are related to the Curriculum and Instruction division which include managing the Scientific Tools and Techniques Program. The STT program is conducted at Fernbank Science Center. Students enter the program through their Middle Schools during the spring of the eighth grade year and attend STT for one semester during their ninth grade year. While in STT, students will earn credit in Biology and Earth Systems while learning about the tools and techniques of scientific inquiry. STT students practice problem-solving skills and high-level thinking utilizing a rigorous, innovative curriculum. Through laboratory and field work, students explore science, gaining a better understanding and a greater appreciation of the scientific process. STT is a rigorous and very demanding science program far outside of the routine that students experience at their home schools. The STT Biology curriculum is aligned to the Georgia Performance Standards. Consequently, STT students are well prepared for the Georgia End-of-Course Test (EOCT) in Biology. The (EOCT) in Biology counts as 20% of the course grade and is part of the graduation requirements for the State of Georgia. Students will rotate through individual modules in Biology

designed around the major strands of the Georgia Performance Standards. Biology modules include Cell Biology, Genetics, Anatomy and Physiology, Ecology, Vertebrate and Invertebrate Biology and Botany. The STT Earth Systems course allows students to rotate through courses in Aerospace, Astronomy, Chemistry, Geology, Meteorology, Paleontology, and Physics.

The Advanced Studies Program is a unique experience, available to all high school students, offers hands-on investigations into a variety of specialized areas of science. Students will have the opportunity to study with expert instructors, working in well-equipped laboratories or traveling to the field, seeing plants and animals in their natural habitats.

The Lockheed Martin Aviation Camp is a week-long activity-based camp that provides hands-on aviation experiences for rising 4th to 6th grade students. The camp is packed with activities that help future aviators understand science, mathematics and technology. More importantly, it will cultivate students’ sense of wonder, imagination and creativity.

I relate well to the students in all of the Special Programs and I am proactive in dealing with student concerns. I have excellent telephone skills and I am invaluable in contacting parents and schools within the DeKalb County School District. I prepare all materials for the students, complete attendance, and maintain all student records. I also volunteer to help teachers prepare for their classes and maintain all lesson plans and classroom materials.

I have collected and filed documentation such as sign-in sheets, leave forms and completed payroll for staff until a new payroll secretary was hired; I also collect appropriate funds from parents/ students for planetarium shows and from students for lost textbooks; submits invoices for payment for the Special Programs; open and sort mail; schedules appointments for staff; and maintained supervisor’s calendar until June 2010.

I am a person of good moral character and integrity. I am a hard worker, dedicated, compassionate individual who has perseverance and ambition. I have the ability to work well under stressful conditions with hard deadlines. My clerical skills are excellent and I always consult my supervisor about documents before they leave the office. My typing and computer skills are good and I am always eager to take courses to improve my knowledge and I am quick to consult with experts to learn new programs.

I use discretion and I keep a professional attitude with my colleagues. I am always on time for work and often volunteer to stay late when necessary to get the job done.

I also photograph students for the special programs at Fernbank Science Center during the year.

Performed other duties as assigned.
