Mamaroneck High School, Mamaroneck, New York. Diploma, 1972. Professional Library and Book Conservation Experience: June 1992 to the Present: BOOK-CARE, Book Conservator and Owner. As proprietor of Book-Care, I provide a wide range of book conservation treatments and related library consultation services to rare book libraries, historical societies and sites, cultural organizations, private business and individuals. Conservation treatments range from basic stabilization and rehousing to page washing, deacidification, resewing, and rebinding. If possible, original covering materials are preserved and utilized after any necessary repairs. Appropriate historical or sympathetic bindings are also designed, as well as sound, functional structures. Each treatment recommendation is written after close examination of the individual book with considerations of its history and its current role. Upon request, historical structures including the Nag Hammadi (Fourth Century Christian) codex, Ethiopian, Coptic, Islamic style, alum tawed, limp vellum, calf, goat, papercase and cloth bindings and cases, using appropriate historic sewing and endband structures, can be constructed. July 2014 to February 2019: Gratz College Library, Director of Library Services.

(Dec. 2013 to June 2014: Gratz College Library, Interim Librarian, then hired on a permanent basis.)

Directed and administered the library’s operations, forge good working relationships and outreach to faculty, students, department chairs and the community Continually updated library resources for researchers, and to meet standards of institutional assessment and accreditation. Facilitated Information Literacy by instructing students individually and/or by addressing classes on maximizing the potential of library resources. Managed the budget, had primary responsibility for acquisitions, cataloging, reference and public services, and digital collections. Developed partnerships with schools and community organizations to facilitate use of Gratz College resources and create community programs. Provided programming, exhibitions, orientation instruction and outreach to students and faculty. Reported to the President of Gratz College and together establish priorities, tasks, budgets and timelines to achieve goals. Maintained confidentiality.

Feb. 2007 to Feb. 2009: Gratz College Library, Librarian. Responsible for reference (primarily humanities subjects), circulation, copy cataloging (English, Hebrew Yiddish, German, French), book selection, book repair, interlibrary loan, exhibition preparation, familiarizing patrons with the collection, shelving and other tasks, as needed. Work coordinated with other staff members to determine priorities. Some weekend and evening hours included in schedule.

Oct. 2004 - June 2005: Princeton University, Rare Books Conservator (Temporary). Conserved rare books in consultation with curators, preservation librarian and paper conservator to facilitate the most appropriate philosophical and technical solutions. Techniques employed included paper re- pair, resewing, disbinding (when essential), board reattachment, endband construction, and repairing a range of binding styles comprised of many components. Enclosures, such as rare book boxes (some with fills to create uniform exterior dimensions of disparate size volumes, or to accommodate miniature books) and wrappers were designed and fabricated, and repair of original and/or historic housing structures were made. Condition reports, treatment recommendations and photographic documentation were created for each project. Coordinated work schedule and balanced priorities among the library collections for which conservation consultations and treatments were provided. Sept. 1990 - May 1992: Conservation Center for Art & Historic Artifacts, Book Conservator.

Determined and carried out appropriate conservation treatments for library and archive materials. Consulted with institutional and individual clients. Contributed to supervision of conservation technicians. Conducted condition surveys of library collections and made treatment recommendations. Full-time professional position.

August 1989 - Sept. 1990: Yale University Library, Assistant Conservator. Performed highly skilled professional conservation treatments to preserve and protect rare and valuable books and archival materials from the Beinecke Library. Managed the onsite binding unit of the Conservation Division. Trained and supervised staff and students in binding and conservation procedures, determined appropriate techniques, materials and procedures for the conservation treatments. Full-time professional position.
