HELPING YOU BUILD ENGAGEMENT THROUGH CREATIVE COMMUNICATIONS

Nearly 40 years of experience in communications, including business communications management, means I bring to you:

Ideas, solutions and high-level execution to help boost the quality and return on investment of your digital and print content, particularly for internal stakeholders.

Decades of corporate communications experience, including proven strategies to improve engagement with C-Suite executives, employees, customers, influencers and the media.

Vast experience conducting 1-on-1 interviews, including professional athletes, politicians and C-Suite executives, as well as employees and external stakeholders.

Advanced skills in creating content in Word, with working experience writing and editing in PowerPoint, and using Excel as a project management tool for my own workload.

The gravitas to confidently and professionally work one-on-one directly with, advise and support executive leaders, including face-to-face interviews, ghostwriting columns and blog posts, etc.

Skills going beyond interviewing, writing and editing—including project management, comfort with all types of deadlines and the ability to take quality photographs, collaborate with people at all levels and to partner with industry trade organizations and publications, manage content in databases, supervise writers, and more.

The experience of working in business communications, including executive communications, from 1991 to the present.

CAREER PATH

September 2021 through March 2023: North Highland—Basking Ridge, N.J. (Remote role)

Communications Consultant

I’ve been a member of a team from North Highland serving the internal communications needs of a pair of pharmaceutical companies in separate engagements.

From 9/2021 through 12/2022: Bristol Myers Squibb’s Quality Management System “Fusion” initiative. BMS created Fusion after the company merged with Celgene. It consisted of the optimization of nearly 100 processes melding heritage BMS and Celgene workstreams. I wrote for Fusion’s monthly newsletter, QMS Today, crafted executive communications, created formatted emails regarding milestones, training instructions or significant changes/updates within Fusion, and conducted on-camera interviews with corresponding written profiles for BMS’ “Culture of Excellence” initiative. From 1/2023 through 3/2023, I worked on the GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) “Power Up” project. Power Up (which is continuing) is intended to combine marketing and tech into one entity to strengthen and streamline the company’s global marketing capabilities. I wrote for the initiative’s PowerUpdate newsletter and worked on text for several slide presentations around the launching of the initiative.

January 2021-August 2021: Verisk, Jersey City, N.J. (Remote role)

Senior Marketing Writer

I was responsible for writing marketing materials—trade publication articles, flyers, website content, white papers, etc.—targeting property and casualty insurance companies. I covered areas such as wildfire risk, and home and small commercial property risk—including roof underwriting risk.

March 2020-January 2021: Interim consulting

In the time between March 2020—when Hackensack Meridian Health ended my contract because of the COVID-19 crisis—and January 2021, I created sports content for County College of Morris semi-annual Alumni Newsletter. In addition, I participated in, and contributed to, webinars sponsored by my church and my son’s faith-based youth group, PEACE of Mind.

October 2018-March 2020: Hackensack Meridian Health, Edison, N.J.:

Consultant/Communications Specialist

I was the lead writer and co-editor for ONE, the health system’s employee publication. In 2019, I wrote eight of the top 10 most-read articles in the publication. During that time, readership increased by about 10 percentage points.

Contributed to and edited The Exchange, a real-time intranet landing page.

Contributed to executive communications (department or all-employee emails), the Leader List weekly note to supervisors and above, and internal/external video scripts.

Cultivated a strong list of contacts within the network and helped position our internal communications team as a trusted partner.

September 1991-April 2018: Prudential Financial, Newark, New Jersey

Lead Communications Specialist

I spent 26 years in the Global Communications Group, building a reputation as a standout communicator and counselor at all levels of the organization. I supported communications for the entire Prudential Financial enterprise, worldwide.

Served as day-to-day editor of the employee print magazine, named the top-rated employee publication in the world by trade group Ragan Communications.

As second in command on the internal communications content team, I helped the employee publication evolve from a black-and-white newspaper to a four-color magazine, and then to a 100 percent online product, which I edited for three years.

As a multipurpose communicator, I contributed stories to Prudential’s online external Newsroom (www.news.prudential.com), wrote and edited social media posts and video scripts, conducted in-person and on-camera executive interviews, directed and conducted photo shoots, helped edit videos created in-house and spent three years providing media relations support for Quincy Krosby, Prudential’s chief market strategist.

September 1983-September 1992: Newspaper staff writer and editor, Morris County, New Jersey

My time in newspapers served as the foundation upon which I built my career, from interviewing, writing and editing to supervising and managing staff, designing publication pages, writing opinion pieces and more.

I joined a daily newspaper as a college intern and in three years rose to part-time, full-time and ultimately Acting Sports Editor. I was offered the permanent position but chose to return to school for my bachelor’s degree.

In 1986, I joined a chain of weekly newspapers as a sports writer (while also completing my degree). I became the chain’s Morris County Sports Editor for four weekly newspapers.

During my first year at Prudential, and with the knowledge of my employer, I worked for one year as a part-time sports writer for Dorf Feature Services, which provides high school and college sports coverage to the Star-Ledger, the state’s largest newspaper.
