Off-Shore Piling Activity:

Stage -1Pile Location Setting Out:

After disconnection or removal of the existing cross-beams, the pile guide or bracket frame will be positioned in between 2 spans, and the proposed pile driving location bracket will be adjusted and fixed by using a total station or GPS with the help of a surveyor based on the approval drawing.

Following the placement of the pile guide and bracket, the crane equipped with a crane positioning system will lift and lower the new pile into the sea via the pile guide arrangement. Once the pile touches the seabed, the position and verticality of the pile will be checked, adjusted, and controlled by total station, plumb, and spirit levels. Upon confirmation of the pile position, driving will start and continue.

Stage -2 Driving of Steel Tubular Piles:

The driving of steel tubular piles will be carried out by marine-based equipment like jack-up barges and tugboats.

Near the proposed replacement location, a Jack-up Barge with Crane and Pilling Equipment (Hydraulic Vibro Hammer) will be positioned.

Removal of existing handrail, roadway slab, and other existing items, if any, as required and properly secured for reinstallation of the same after completion of the replacement.

The new pile will be lifted from the flat-top barge by a crane equipped with a crane positioning system and a hydraulic vibro hammer. The crane will lift the new pile and lower it into the sea through pile arrangement.

Stage -3 Pile Dynamic Testing (PDA) (20% of working pile)

Dynamic Pile Testing (High Strain Dynamic Testing) is conducted according to ASTM D4945 by attaching strain transducers and accelerometers to the sides of the open-ended steel pipe piles by drilling holes and bolting sensors. Three holes each shall be made in a diametrically opposite direction (180 degrees apart) for fixing sensors, approximately 1 meter below the top of the pile. A pair of transducers is attached to opposite sides of the pile to detect pile bending if it occurs during testing.

Following all preparations, an impact hammer will be attached to the crane and gradually applied the impact as per the required height to achieve pile resistance on the pile.

Key Responsibilities for Piling Activity:

Ensure employees working on marine vessels and work locations are equipped with life jackets.

Life buoys with a 28-meter through line shall be placed on the vessels.

During pile installation, ensure that the barge is positioned on the north side of the approach trestle.

While performing the job, marine vessels must keep a 5-meter minimum distance between themselves and the approach trestle.

During rough seas, the float barge must be moved to a safe location within the small boat harbor.

Ensure the existing pipelines will not be disturbed during the pilling activity.

In the event of inclement weather, the activity must be halted and a minimum of 120 LUX must be maintained at the work site.

Only authorized personnel—those handling the vibro hammer hoses—are permitted near the work area.

To reduce noise, make sure the hammer is wrapped in acoustic wrap.

The operator of the vibration pile driver must be familiar with the structure, performance, essentials of operation, and safety precautions of the machine.

On all diving operations, a diving supervisor shall be present to facilitate coordination between divers and the surface.

Pile driving shall not be performed while the drivers are engaged in a diving operation for the same pile.

All drivers should be trained in first aid and CPR, and on all diving operations, there should be an approved first aid kit suitable for use under hyperbaric conditions on site, as recommended in the US Navy Diving Manual.

In case there might be a ruptured, cut, or irretrievably fouled hose, each diver should be equipped with "Bail-out" equipment, either in the form of a "Bail-out" cylinder, a diver's life vest, or a pneumo hose.

Make certain that SCUBA equipment is not used at depths greater than 40 meters (130 feet).

In enclosed or restricted water, such as structures, a lifeline or buddy system must be used.

The submersible pressure gauge shall be calibrated, as well as the overpressure relief valve in the bailout bottle.

The diving boat operator must always keep communication facilities close to the divers.

All divers must adhere to the work-rest cycle.

Standby emergency vehicles should be available at the work location.

Throughout the activity, a rescue boat with a diver must be available at the nearest work location.

Off- Shore Equipment Handled:

Jack up Barge - KT1740 (GD-274) Crane Hitachi SCX 2800-2 (Capacity-275 Ton).

Flattop Barge - KT 1304 (GD-220) Crane Sennebogen SL 5500 (Capacity-180Ton).
