Search and Platforms Engineering Lead

● Hired and managed a team of 30 engineers that was responsible for the search experience across all of Wayfair including Specialty Retail Brands, Canada, the UK, Ireland, and Germany.

● Also served as Search and Recommendations Platform Lead responsible for Data Engineering and Platform Standardization. Successfully transitioned the Search and Recommendations team from monolithic designs to repeatable microservices. Improved quality and increased developer velocity significantly across the organization.

● Instrumental in revamping the hiring process while serving as Interview Captain for Search and Recommendations. Conducted hundreds of interviews and have grown teams from 30-60 engineers. Responsible for setting interview standards, training, and collaborating with the Talent team to target sourcing efforts

Recommendations Engineering Lead

● Engineering lead for all product and content recommendations for Wayfair. Scaled the platform to support ~1 billion requests per day across all marketing channels. Hired and re-organized the team structure to align with business objectives and provide more team autonomy.

● Led Machine Learning initiatives for Search and Recommendations by working closely with the Machine Learning Platform and Catalog teams.

● Pivoted recommendations platform work from building services to building tools, SDKs, service templates, and standard integrations, greatly increasing productivity across all teams.

Associate Director of Search Technologies

● Lead search teams that handle all requests/responses for searches on Wayfair.com and WF brands.

● Deployed Machine Learning approach to search interpretation including predictive search, advanced spell checking, seasonal segmentation and personalization.

● Improved search results of 4+ million products by analyzing different algorithms to determine which ones to test.

● Leveraged A/B testing to drive decisions

● Built and maintained scalable online event platform that supports events with tens of thousands of attendees.

Vice President, Technology 2012 - 2014

● Stabilized and improved legacy platform.

● Replaced legacy platform with multiple new platforms developed to scale and be more manageable.

● Established new team of ~ 30 engineers including software engineers, devops, qa, project and product managers across both organizations.

● Implemented Agile methodologies (SCRUM, KanBan) across all business units and transformed how software was designed built, delivered and maintained. The team deploys code to production multiple times a week.

Nellymoser is a mobile innovator and a pioneer in rich media delivery. Today, Nellymoser’s proprietary Mobile Engagement Platform includes everything that advertisers and marketers need to deliver high-quality, rich content seamlessly across the ever changing mobile landscape. Vice President of Technology 2010 - 2012

● Report directly to the CEO/Board of Directors. Responsible for all technology decisions and staff, including product strategy and implementation, quality assurance, IT, production facility management, and technical innovation. As part of the Executive Team, I meet with the Board of Directors to review current state of the company and devise the company vision and road map.

● Responsible for delivering mobile video ad serving platform with VAST support. Oversaw integration of the Nellymoser mobile platform with the bid based video ad server. Managed the creation of an automated mobile coupon API and infrastructure. I continue to push the company towards ad based revenue sources.

● Prioritize resources across a wide range of customer facing projects, platform development, and internal initiatives.

● Active in presales for large clients as technical architect and technical project manager for key customers.

● In an effort to reduce expenses, I initiated and executed moving the production facility ‘into the cloud’. This was a key initiative and reduced costs by 70% while improving overall availability and performance. The new architecture is fully redundant, self-healing, and auto scaling.

● Managed engineering team of 20 developers wiith a strong focus on employee development and retention.

Director of Engineering 2007-2010

● Managed the entire Engineering department consisting of client and server developers, QA, Product Management, and IT. Designed and managed the creation of a new product built on the Nellymoser platform. Currently this is the main revenue source for the company.

● Reduced production facility costs over 66% by reclaiming previously outsourced tasks. Reviewed operational infrastructure and identified areas prime for automation. Principal Engineer/Mobile Development Manager 2004-2007

● Brought on as Principal Engineer to build the server development team. Developed and deployed on deck applications on Sprint, AT&T, Verizon, and Virgin Mobile networks. Coded first generation production infrastructure. Helped redesign the internal network to facilitate expansion.

● Served as Lead Server Developer and Technical lead on upwards of 50 individual projects.

● Recruited an excellent team of Engineers and QA professionals that has delivered more than 50 products to market.
