Research Engineer

KTH Royal Institute of Technology Stockholm, Sweden

Research on Nanotechnology & Thermoelectrics Materials for Energy harvesting. Nano-structured Intermetallics (CoSb3 and BE2Te3) were synthesized using wet and solid state chemical routes, follwed by advanced characterization and thermoelectrics Figure of Merit.

Development of Low Temperature Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (LTSOFCs) -BaxCa1-xCoyFe1-yO3-δ -(BCCF) based nanocomposites were synthesized using sol-gel method and investigated as the potential cathode candidate for LTSOFCs as well as a functional semiconductor material for novel energy conversion device (NECD). Composite mixtures of BCCF and commercial samarium doped ceria (SDC) were prepared by wet chemical route and annealed at 700 C. XRD, EIS, EDX Mapping and SEM techniques are employed to characterize the as-prepared samples. LTSOFCs and NECDs were fabricated by dry powder pressing technique and maximum power densities more than 600 mW cm-2 at 600 C were achieved for both types of the devices.

-Research involved materials testing and evaluation. Bituminous based binders with and without additives were investigated in different climate conditions. Breaking and coalescence mechanisms of bitumen emulsions were also studied under the influence of temperature, binder viscosity, chemical origin, salts, emulsifiers and adhesion promoters. Moreover, infrared microscopy and surface characterization of different minerals and binders were also carried out using liquids-solid and vapors-solid thermodynamic approaches.

-Invented a new test procedure for studying breaking and coalescence of bitumen droplets in emulsion environment.

-I have modified equipment for surface energy characterization of minerals (universal sorption device) and binders (contact angle methods).

-Performed extra departmental duties e.g. teaching courses, materials testing for external laboratory users and supervising master thesis & internees’ students.

-Master theses on bio-oil modification of bituminous binders and effect of aging on the surface energy and rheological properties were also mainly supervised.
