The food and Inspection Service, an agency responsible for ensuring the United States’ commercial supply of meat, poultry, and egg products is safe, wholesome and correctly labeled and packaged. The agency acts as a national health department and is responsible for the safety of public food related establishments as well as business investigation.
Responsibilities
oInspector in charge of four establishments a slaughterhouse, a further processing plant, and two ready-to-eat plants.

oScheduled tasks in PHIS throughout the week to meet all requirements that will keep food safety within each of the four establishments.

oInspect for abnormalities and signs in Poultry, Beef, and Swine that could indicate disease or health conditions that would prohibit the animal from entering the food supply. Engaged in carcass inspections (CI) will include post mortem inspection by visually observing the outside of each carcass for the presence of food safety related disease conditions.
oExecuted verbal and signal commands to successfully communicate with the facility employees for the efficient detection of condemn birds.
oExamine food products in processing plants to meet food safety requirements so it can be fit for consumer.
oPerform duties before and after slaughter, guaranteeing that the product is not adulterated.

oObserve plant operations and conduct hands-on verification to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
oConduct regulatory oversight activities inside the plant making sure all CCP’s are met with each product.
oInteract with plant managers and personnel to explain legal and regulatory requirements, discuss operation of the plants SSOP, HACCP plan and other food safety programs.
oMade sure all the paperwork for each establishment was always up to date including with their own sampling.

Coming in as the Operation’s Manager this part of my job had me worried and nervous at first because before I was just an employee. I confronted my fears and interacted with the customers professionally. I would do this on daily basis that this experience helped me network with people without a problem.
