Artists for Good Collaborative- a nonprofit corporation I founded which seeks to elevate the Arts as an important resource for the health and healing of our community; promote local artists and small businesses; and provide an outlet for creative minds to network, share and collaborate!

Cherry Hill Free Clinic-currently volunteer one Saturday a month as a provider United Community Clinic-Board of Directors. Former Chair This is a physician and NP-led, student run clinic in West Philadelphia where I had part of my clinical experience. Because of my passion for the work being done there to extend care to the underserved, I was asked to serve on the Board to add my expertise in geriatrics and my Nursing knowledge to the development and sustainability of the clinic Riverview Avenue Community Center- inspired by my work at United Community Clinic, I did some work toward starting a nurse-led, student run free clinic in the Upper Darby area that would serve marginalized populations such as the homeless, poor, and immigrants from SE Asia,and various African and Spanish-speaking countries. This was an interdisciplinary effort and truly grassroots; I administered a community health needs assessment with a med student and we recruited other engaged students and faculty from University of Pennsylvania. This project is currently on hold due to the Pandemic.

HIP-Healthy In Philadelphia (Penn Nursing) and WEST PHILLY HEALTH FAIR volunteer-community outreach through health screenings and examinations at local health fairs, wellness talks, other community activities that promote health. Fundraising-through volunteering time, money, and solicitation of donations via fundraising events and participation in 5K runs and walks-have supported the Institute on Aging, Pulmonary Hypertension Association, PALS (a creative arts therapy program for domestic abuse survivors) and Project HOME.

EMPOWERING YOUTH AT RISK(2012-my senior BSN project)- Impacting Adolescent Sexual Health in Delaware County, PA; Purpose-To share experiences, information, wisdom And personal stories, through various venues and using a multimedia approach, that empower teens to have the confidence to make decisions about their sexual health that will provide them with the best options for their future; Preventing adolescent pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, and sexual violence; Encouraging discussion between youth and their peers and mentors to facilitate comfort about sexuality and strengthen knowledge base; Developing skills for decision-making, assertiveness, and leadership; Fostering sense of self-efficacy, self-esteem,individuality and courage; Ensuring healthier expectations for relationships and intimacy; Informing the public about the urgent need for accurate sex education and preventive interventions. This was accomplished through 1) presentation of topics, discussion, lecture and graphic slides presented at a youth summit in Upper Darby, Pa, and 2) presentation of a teen health fair at Penn Wood High School during which my classmates and I held information booths with poster presentations, slides, and interactive activities to promote awareness of teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted infections, sexual violence, bullying, texting while driving, smoking, alcohol and drug use, and more. I was able to do some nursing research by engaging over 100 students in a questionnaire about their current knowledge of teen pregnancy and STI’s.

VIBES-Visions in Bettering Everyone’s Society. Conceived and implemented this nonprofit project during 1994-97. Two huge benefit concerts were held at a local church. Many area performers from different genres of music volunteered their time while artists displayed their work for sale. All proceeds from the shows were donated to two local charities for the homeless. Shepherd’s Place/ Life Center- Also volunteer with the homeless at these shelters, serving food, socializing, and checking blood pressure and medications. Took a series of Black and White photographs of participants and interviewed them for a book which was displayed at the benefit concerts for these shelters.

St. Michael School/Navajo Reservation, Arizona. Volunteered at this special ed school for a week, helping in a classroom while learning about the Navajo culture. Hiked the Grand Canyon the next weekend!
