Work Experience

Medical Assistant

Shannon Medical Center - San Angelo, TX

February 2021 to May 2023

• I would call the patient into exam room get their weight verify their personal identification information. Then go into their medical record and verify allergies, medical history, surgical history, medical conditions. medication’s that they are currently taking along with frequency and dosage.

• Take their vitals (manually) which include their blood pressure, pulse and respiration. Ask if they have any concerns to relay to physician when I let him know the patient is ready to be seen.

• Upon completion of the appointment I would discharge the patient as the provider advise me when he wanted the patient to return, review information discussed during appointment, weather any other test out procedures were needed and why. I would then make appointments, place any necessary orders into the system and or enter referrals per the provider.

• Print the after visit summary that includes their upcoming appointments and verbally explain any instructions/directions from the provider as well as answer any questions the patient may have.

• Assist patient back into the lobby/exit.

• Record important/correct medical information into third medical record, manually enter lab results, fax, make phone calls needed, answer patient calls as well as patient chats.

• Work closely to physician to provide the best patient care available.

• Also while working as a medical assistant I did work in the medical department of the Tom Green County Jail.

• My duties there were to gather all medication verify the dosage and frequency and pass them out also making sure they were all taken.

• I also took vital signs off the inmates that needed their BP monitored several times a day, perform and check TB skin test.

• I would have the diabetic inmates come into the clinic to check their sugar prior to lunch and dinner. If needed I drew up their insulin per their Dr. and did the injection.

• If any medical emergencies happened as far as fights we would assist the nurse in any way we could.

• I would also do blood draws on inmates upon their arrival to the jail or when needed.

• Also kept current documentation of our processes through out the day. Cleaned and restocked all exam rooms daily.

Medical Assistant

• I was a Medical Assistant at the Tom Green, County Jail, here in San Angelo.

• My duties here consisted of going into our computer system and pulling up each inmate that took medications. I would then verify i had the correct inmate’s information/medications to prepare their container with correct dosages.

• Once completed I then pushed our medication cart to each cell block to distribute to each inmate, making sure the medications were taken.

• Document it into our computer system. If for some reason they did not have a medication or did not receive it for some reason that would also be documented in our system, or if they were given any extra over the counter medication it was to be documented as well.

• I also would call the diabetic inmates into the clinic to check their blood sugar and administer their insulin as prescribed.

• I would also prepare & pass any other medications that were required throughout the rest of the day.

• I would also assist the RNs in the medical clinic when needed to cleaning/dressing wounds, collect blood samples when needed.

• Properly clean/sterilize any medical equipment via dry heat.Properly disinfected all equipment used by each inmate after use.

• I also did performed tuberculosis skin test and read them to make sure that they were negative. Assistant Donor Care Mobile Supervisor

United Blood Services - San Angelo, TX

December 2002 to January 2021

• Gather all the equipment needed for the day supplies load everything onto the mobile unit and once we get to location, QC all equipment, medical products being used that day.

• Delegate who is going to set up medical screening, who will set up phlebotomy, who will perform QC, who will verify that QC has been performed correctly, manage the daily operations of the mobile blood drive. Speak to the POC upon arriving to location to discuss where we are to park/set up and anything else pertaining to the drive.

• I would open the blood drive at the time indicated to start the work day by taking donors and starting the medical screening process, performing venipuncture to collect products needed, performing medical screening which consist of data entry of all key identifying information, conduct the medical questionnaire as per SOP guidelines. Taking vitals, perform a fingerstick to check the hemoglobin for donor eligibility purposes, if any questions, or discrepancies, arise call the appropriate medical director on call to see verify the donor meets acceptable requirements to donate per SOP.

• Verify all paperwork/DIN match all collection bags and sample tubes per SOP. Perform review paperwork, verify donor’s information to confirm correct person is with correct collection bags/containers followed by performing the phlebotomy.

• Once collection of blood product(s) is completed verify all information once again then disconnect the donor, give donor after care instructions, over see donor to make sure no reaction occurs.

• Pack and scan units and tubes into their shipping container. Disinfect all equipment that was used prior to next donor use. Tend to donors make sure they are always comfortable, feeling Ok throughout the donation process.

• At the end of the day pack up every all the equipment and supplies once to get back to the office to perform all necessary duties that include end of day, paperwork number of donors who were seen number of products that were collected match packing record and all are accounted for. Upload all data for that blood drive toa memory stick, once upon arrival to the center upload memory stick into the live environment.

• Start reconciling all paperwork and If for some reason the paperwork is unable to be reconciled. An investigation will need to begin until the discrepancy is found and corrected if needed. When all is completed print all the reports that are necessary and scan them to the proper supervisors and directors of the company.

• Make sure that the blood/sample tube are packed properly & reiced as per SOP in its shipping container along with the proper paperwork prior to it being taken to the designated area to await the currier for pick up and delivered to our lab for processing.

• Different equipment used for product collection I am proficient in is the Auto C, MCS +8150, Trima and Alyx.

Donor Center Technician

ZLB Plasma Center - Grand Prairie, TX

March 2000 to November 2002

Greet the donor get them checked in when it is their turn you document their weight. Next is screening where donor’s vitals are taken and within acceptable ranges as well as performing a finger stick to make sure their hemoglobin is within acceptable range. Ask a series if questions verbatim, document response unless further information is required. Label collection bags and vials with Donor Information Number and that all match. Donor is taken to donation area where the phlebotomist set up the machine assigned to donor with a new kit and prime when ready for use. Verify don’t information,DIN matches, perform arm scrub per SOP and perform needle stick(make adjustments if needed) connect tubing and start machine. One collection pouch is filed verify all DINS match on vials and collect for testing. Disconnect donor when done per SOP. Cleaning in done daily of equipment as well as daily QC, monthly checks of equipment and monthly cleaning. Accurate Documentation is very important for all required duties. Education
