Triaging of newly coming/admitted patients and assigning the bed disposition of patients seeking health care opinions and health care.
Initial Health assessment using integrated health assessment system.
Ongoing health assessment in acute care setting using “MEWS” (modified early warning signs) for adult patients and PEWS (pediatric early warning signs).
Making nursing care plans for the patient and carrying out all nursing process steps like assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, outcome, evaluation and monitoring the patient as per policy and protocols.
Triaging the patient to P1 or P2 category according to ESI (emergency severity index) and switch roles accordingly.
Mainlining the intravenous “IV Cannulation” line for the medically advised treatment using aseptic technique. Performing phlebotomy tasks like drawing blood samples and dispatching them to state lab unit for urgent labs advised by the doctors.
Administering the medications to the patients according to JCIA patient safety goals using medication administering rights like, Right Patient, Right Dose, Right Route, Right Time &Frequency, and Right Documentation.
Receiving and labeling floor stock and in unit crash cart medications as per policy and JCIA guidelines.
Ensuring the safe monitoring and administration of high alert medication.
Evaluating and reassessing the patients during and after the medications administration.
Maintaining the expiry and changing meds protocol of floor stock, crash cart and transfer out meds kit.
Performing team leader role during code blue using ACLS, PALS etc. protocols and guidelines defined by American heart association.
Teaching, mentoring and supervising the new comers to acute care unit.
Chasing critical labs reports using JCIA defined patient safety goals “effective communication “by “read back and repeat back”.
Monitoring of lab reports for proper indication of antibiotics, drug-drug interaction, duplication of same class, renal dose adjustments etc.
Ensure timely delivery of medications to the patients.
Ensure the accuracy of the medicines before dispensing for right patient, right drug and right quantity.
