CHOICE HOTELS (SIS/ERP TRACKING SYSTEM) ( 2Q 2017)

Re-architecting of SIS/ERP Tracking System to streamline alignment between the SIS Order-Input entry-system and the ERP system for generating invoices

The as-is process integrated with the ERP system using various batch technologies including Java jobs and Stored Procedures that relied heavily on direct database links causing several problems including batch jobs filling nightly batch-processing window causing overflow into morning hours, failures of batch-jobs causing further failures of subsequent jobs and delays in realizing client-revenues. Maintenance Teams were overwhelmed with managing jobs, fixing errors thereby forcing end-users to manually implement business-rules which created further errors.

Goal: Changing the ERP integration to a real-time, SOA methodology to benefit both the business as well as the IT organization. Implementing these processes as loosely coupled services for better reuse and modification

Solution Methodology: The solution methodology consisted of examining baseline-driven architecture building-blocks [ABBs] and developing target-driven architecture building-blocks considering constraints imposed and incorporating stakeholders' additional concerns such as other new major company-acquisitions feeding into the SIS/ERP system new platform-services, network-services etc. required per ABB and exposing key processes as SOA service-application components/services operating on existing or newly-identified databases. The corresponding solution building-blocks [SBBs] consisted of a Business Services Choreography [BSC} node in conjunction with an ESB node, a Message-Queue building block, along with a Federated Identity Management node and an Adapter Building Block to interface with the legacy functionalities of the ERP system

Consulting Engagement:

Addressing and aligning "shadow" IT departments

Program Management and IT Governance

Ensuring SunEdison receives the highest value from its IT investments

Setting up a "Lean" IT organization leveraging Cloud and Outsourcing

Introducing/Incorporating ‘Lean" processes (business and IT)

Solution Methodology:

•Creating a Microsoft Visio presentation of the proposed re-structuring identifying business functions, Organizational Units [OUs],time-frames of capability-increments and "front-end to back-end and top-down to bottom-up zones" within the Enterprise Architecture hierarchy with possible migrations to cloud.

•Tactical Initiatives/Efforts: More-specific/short-term/activities (2014-2016, 2016-2018, 2018-2020) deriving from strategic considerations such as Application/Technology Portfolio Rationalization/Management, Application Integration, Optimization of Utilization of IT Resources through Virtualization, Automation of Infrastructure, Data Architecture Transformation.
