CMS Energy, Jackson, Michigan 10/2017 – 2/2023

Project Manager for LVD Automation Program. This project installs automatic transfer reclosers (ATR) on distribution “loops” from the electrical substations to assist in the grid reliability for customers. Managed a yearly project budget ranging from $8M to $15 million per year. This project scope includes installation of “loops” from design through construction, checkout and startup. Increased the annual installation from ten “loops” to 35 per year through streamlining the process, developing work flows and assisted cross functional departments to increase productivity. Success of this project was measured when the “loops” installed for one year saved over 1.5 million customer minutes during a single storm.

Managed the schedule and yearly budgets for the Distribution Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition Program (DSCADA). This project upgrades 730 substations over a span of ten years and enables improved response and customer restoration time. This project is the predecessor to other grid improvement projects.

BASF, Wyandotte, Michigan 7/1996 – 12/2001

Responsible for project management duties for Elastocell Plant on-site, member of corporate team to standardize new instrumentation software for the corporation. This included modification of specifications table, access rights and writing of procedure manuals. Preparation of P&ID, Layout, Process Flow Diagrams, and Master Plan Drawings.

23,000 SF Capacity Expansion Project – Added four (new manufacturing lines, increasing production by 40%. Responsible for specifying, selecting, and installing two-part urethane mold lines, reactor, ovens, and conveyor systems.

Upgrade Manufacturing Line PLCs – Increased production and reduced downtime and scrap by 10% while maintaining difficult production demands by upgrading manufacturing line PLCs. This included removing hardwired push button operator station for a human machine interface, relocation of the control functions from the main panel to the operator’s panel and replacement of the PLCs and support hardware.

Offline Cutter Project – Designed, specified, and contracted the manufacture of new urethane parts cutter. The new cutter decreased changeover time to new parts by 95% over older cutter. The new machine was capable of cutting 600 parts per hour without human intervention, while checking part length, width, and diameter.

Flint Ink Corporate, Ann Arbor, Michigan 1/1985 – 4/1996

Responsible for branch engineering duties nationwide. Specification through installation of new equipment, facilities and processes for manufacturing and overseeing repairs and modifications to existing building and equipment. Equipment included pumps mixing vessels, strainers, filters, bulk material handling, milling equipment, and cooling towers. Consulting for customer projects involving new processes for ink handling and reclaiming.

New Facility Project – Project Manager responsible for complete new facility which included solid conveying, dispersion, mixing, blending milling and filtering. Design requirements of 1,500 PPH increasing to 3,000 PPH. Exceeded by start-up at 4,000 PPH.

Plant Expansion Project – Project Manager, duties much the same as the above project. Similar project as above with the exception of doubling the plant size while maintaining existing production during construction.

Facility Upgrade Project – Worked with consulting engineering firm to add additional manufacturing equipment in one area, upgraded equipment in another area, and replaced process computer/PLC. Manufacturing capacity was expanded by 50%. Process computer was replaced over three-day weekend to keep downtime to one day. New system consisted of 650 I/O points.
