Scope: With type II Diabetes at epidemic levels throughout the US, conceived and developed a scalable medical device/product distributorship business. Identified suppliers, negotiated and secured contracts, and developed new categories in high potential channels. Within a year, obtained certification, established field training, national testing, and launched the business. This business is growing at the rate of 27% annually. This was accomplished through the following initiatives;

Business/Product/Distribution Development: Identified the need to find 3rd party influence to drive sales. Recruited and trained supporting staff, obtained their certification, and assigned them to skilled Nursing Facilities and Primary Care Physicians. Developed contracted relationships with non-hospital owned, multiple physician groups to enable them to bill for services and increase net profits. Developed custom services for ease of use. Technology: To maintain competitive edge, identified and secured technology for medical processing. Start Up to Acquisition in 4 years: Challenged to develop a value-added distributor of a comprehensive line of products from multiple manufacturers. Assembled a team of investors and established a strategic market penetration plan. Within the first year, established products and full penetration achieving 11.4% market share, sales $12.3M; $492,000/fte, with a 30% EBITDA while the industry averaged 5%. Once this was verified by an outside M&A firm, positioned and then sold the company in 2004.

Ohio Academy of Nursing Homes, Columbus, Ohio 1998 – 2001

Scope: Recruited by a statewide association considered rogue by its Board and commissioned to turn it around by developing new ways for the constituency to grow their businesses despite state budgetary issues and the fact that the industry had surpassed nuclear energy as the most regulated in the country. With-in 36 months became the state’s contributions leader, increasing membership to 22,000 beds. This was accomplished through the following initiatives;

Strategic Planning: Performed a complete reorganization from a publicly traded multi-state monopoly to a private business. Within a year, refocused strategic targeting to smaller groups combining purchasing power and reducing expenses, wrote and published articles; gaining national exposure, and secured nationally recognized speakers Governor Jesse Ventura & Dr. Joyce Brothers for conferences. These achievements revitalized the organization; nearly doubled facility level membership, and ultimately the state level resulting in 40% membership (sales) growth over 3 years.

Arbor Health Care Company, Lima, Ohio 1996 – 1997

Sales/Business Development: In the wake of the acquisition of Poly-Stat Computer Applications, recruited to concentrate the organization’s sales strategy focusing on new channels. Built the team, infrastructure, and strategic plan, developed collateral, recruited, trained, and mentored the sales teams. Within 90 days, catapulted growth from new business acquisition every 90 days to every 14. The sales numbers were impressive enough to draw attention from our competitors who purchased the company 1 year later.

Scope: Launched a new start up business in a highly regulated environment. Created the business plan, structured the product offering, and within 90 days, brought it to market. Became profitable within the year and sustained profitability for 8 additional years. This led to the successful sale of the company to Arbor Health Care Company in 1997.
