The Magistrate Judge Statistics through Automated Records System (MJSTAR) is a major,

Mission-critical software application designed to serve the statistical reporting needs of magistrate judges nationwide, and the statistical requirements of the Administrative Office (AO) as mandated by federal statuate,28 U.S.C. 604(d)(2) & (3).

MJSTAR originated as an independent automation project intended to improve the process of assembling magistrate judge statistics by automatically collecting statistical data from the district courts ‘Integrated Case Management Systems(ICMS).In June 1999,the committee on Automation and Technology decided to replace the ICMS system with the Case Management Electronic Case File System(CM/ECF),which included abolishing the original plan of creating MJSTAR data source functionality was built into version 1.0 of the CMECF system.

The MJSTAR system facilitates nationwide consistency and reliability of magistrate judge and district court statistical information by minimizing the manual entry of data by chambers staff, and standardizing data collection methods throughout the courts. MJSTAR also provides case management information on cases and other matters referred to magistrate judges. This enables district judges and magistrate judges to, more effectively, track the progress of cases.
