Position evolved and advanced to administrative assistant to the medical director. This physician was treating approximately 800-1000 established patients. Duties included increased access of the EPIC Electronic Health Records system for scheduling, charting and medication refills. Responsible for triaging patient issues with medication changes and side effects, relaying instruction between physician and patient while continually developing relationships with our patients and other departments within the hospital system. Billing related duties included obtaining insurance prior authorizations for medication and clinic services, reconciling the outpatient psychiatry accounts receivable, resolving insurance appeals/denials and working with our patients to keep accounts current and manage payment plans when necessary.

July 2008-August 2009

Scheduling/New Patient Intake/Administrative Assistant to Attending Physicians This position provided new patient intake and administrative duties for three (3) attending physicians. Primary objective was to offer excellent customer service and obtain the necessary information to schedule new patients in accordance with the established policies and procedures of the psychiatric outpatient clinic. Responsibilities included evaluating the needs of the patient and determining individual appropriateness based on the clinics services and the level of care needed by the patient, or give referrals to suitable outside sources within the community. Scheduling duties performed on the EPIC Electronic Health Records system. This position also performed accounts receivable functions for three (3) attending physicians and filled in at front desk check-in/check-out when necessary. Billing duties included verifying insurance benefits and eligibility, obtaining insurance authorizations, as well as working with insurance companies to resolve denials. The hospital utilized the (DOS based) IDX computer system for medical billing.

Primary function was to directly collaborate with Ohio State University Hospital, Patient Care Resource Managers (Registered Nurse Discharge Planners) and other area hospitals, to assist in facilitation of patient hospital discharge and transition to homecare for IV infusion, skilled nursing and ancillary therapies. Position required excellent communication skills, extensive customer service with referral sources. Responsibilities include compiling and processing patient information, such as demographics and insurance benefits for the purposes of verification, authorization, ICD-9 coding and billing. Additionally, to obtain current diagnoses, history and physical, IV access line type to determine proper catheter care supply needs and IV infusion drug orders with dosage, schedule and duration, as well as ensuring receipt of finalized continuity of care and electronic discharge instructions, signed by physician. Duties also included maintaining constant communication with Option Care pharmacy and nursing departments to coordinate timely dispense and delivery of drug and nursing start of care.
