Project Description:

DSHS had originally planned to update the current Maven-based reporting system, TxHSN. However, due to ongoing quality issues with the system, DSHS will need to develop and implement a replacement system that can meet the new business needs of the program. The replacement system will allow DSHS to improve reporting and tracking of HAIs as well as enhance infection prevention activities that may prevent transmission of communicable diseases such as COVID19 in healthcare facilities. The new system will also be augmented to track infection control assessment and response (ICAR) activities in response to the COVID19 pandemic or other infection prevention emergencies. This project will ensure Texas can effectively update and expand the use of TxHSN across the state for tracking HAIs and infection Control assessments done in facilities.

The TxHSN project solution meets the legislative mandate for the TxHSN reporting alignment with the federal Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Systems (CMS) as well as replacing the current reporting system. Alignment with CMS will allow DSHS to improve reporting and tracking of HAIs, including those for COVID19. All healthcare facilities that are mandated by Texas statute are required to report their health care associated infection (HAI) data through NHSN.
