EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

April 2001-Oct 2003

Southampton General Hospital – Band 5 RGN General ITU Responsibilities were for the care of the critically ill patient. I developed the skills of prioritising care, and supporting close friends and relatives.

Oct 2003 – Nov 2007

NHS Professionals – Band 5 RGN

I worked as a bank nurse on Medical, surgical and elderly care wards. I eventually went to work in the community, where I was offered a temporary contract for six months. Feb 2006 – July 2006

Eastney Health Centre – Band 5 RGN community

I visited housebound patients in their home, and provided the nursing care required, whilst continuously assessing their needs. I carried out assessment of wounds, venepuncture, vaccinations, gave prescribed medications, and performed other general nursing interventions. After completing the six months contract I continued working for NHSP, until Nov 2007. Nov 2007 – July 2008

HMP Winchester – Band 5 RGN prison Healthcare

I worked as a healthcare nurse within the secure environment of a prison. My role was quite varied, I assessed new prisoners as they came into reception and dealt with any health care needs as required. I worked on the wings supervising the prisoners with their medication, dealing with any questions they had, this regularly involved health promotion. I attended emergency calls as required, and triaged. I also worked on the hospital wing, providing care for prisoners with more complex needs. I took Hep B clinics, and nurse led drop in clinics. Dealing with challenging behaviour was a large part of the role. July 2008 – Feb 2009

HMP Winchester – Band 5 RGN Substance Misuse

My role was working in the detox department, within a small team, assessing prisoners needs as to their requirement for a drug and alcohol detox regime. I also medicated the prisoners whilst continuously reviewing any effects of withdrawal, and their mental well being. Maintaining their safety was of great importance within this role.

After leaving the detox department I continued to work in the prison, employed by Mayday Nursing Agency.

June 2008 – April 2013

Mayday Healthcare Nursing Agency – Band 5 RGN

I worked on general medical,,surgical and elderly care wards within the NHS and private hospitals. I also worked as a nurse recruiter for Mayday, interviewing prospective candidates, and ensuring all requirements were met.

April 2013 – April 2014

St Nicholls Prison Guernsey – Band 5 RGN

I worked as a prison nurse within a prison, carrying out all the duties as previously. At the weekends I was a lone worker within the prison, therefore having responsibility of the healthcare department. Attending to any healthcare emergencies, including officers and detainees, and giving advice as required. The clients were adolescence, male and female offenders, this included pregnant females, and those that had recently given birth.

April 2014-Present

NHS Professionals (Bank)

Working across Southern Health Community Hospitals, responsible for the safe care of elderly, rehab and end of life patients.

July 2019 - Feb 2020

Working as a Forensic health care Practitioner in police custody across Hampshire. Feb 2020- May 2022

NHSP (bank)

May 2022 – Jan 2023

8 months not working whilst receiving medical treatment. January 2023 – May 2023

Southern Health – Longbeech 2 ward

Working nights on an elderly rehab ward. Responsible for the supervision of care and agency staff in providing safe care of patients.

Unfortunately due to moves to work in an acute area (MAU), and concerns around safe staffing levels, I found the environment not conducive for me currently. Voluntary Work

Feb 2007 – July 2009

Portsmouth Area Rape Crisis Service

I provided counselling over the telephone to clients who had experienced sexual violation or violence. As a volunteer I provided a key role in giving support and information. Feb 2011 – July 2011

Victim Support

I accredited as a volunteer to provide victims of crime with emotional and practical support. I had a case load of clients, however after six months I found it difficult to commit due to time constraints. HOBBIES & GENERAL INTERESTS ABOUT MYSELF

I enjoy keeping busy, and learning, and developing new skills. I have a dog I like walking miles and keeping myself fit. I also enjoy reading biographies, as well as travelling, and visiting historical places of interest.

I would describe myself as a confident and independent person, I am also adaptable depending on what environment I find myself in. This has been demonstrated in my work in the prison environment, and also as an agency nurse where many challenges are met. I have excellent listening, observation and communication skills, and am able to get on with a variety of different people, however I am able to assert myself when needed. I am very resilient and conscientious in my work, and have developed the attribute of patience and tolerance.

As reflected in my c.v my nursing career has been quite varied, I have gained and learnt many different skills and experiences. I have learnt from the negative ones and brought forward the positive experiences.

Throughout my career and life, good and fair relationships have been important to me, and I dislike discrimination to others, I have demonstrated the ability to be proactive in improving the care and treatment of service users, and colleagues also. I greatly appreciate an open and friendly working environment.
