I have been responsible for technology products and solutions for more than 25 years. I have built products and solutions on multiple platforms both large and small. I have built embedded systems, SaaS products and solutions, and many web-based applications. I have played major roles in bringing two products to Gartner’s Magic Quadrants. I have extensive experience throughout the entire product lifecycle including design, development, support, operations, marketing, and sales.

Rulesware LLC — CISO, Technology Lead

2014 - 2023

● Created the technology practice organization and established organization processes to support 500 engineers.

● Managed IT organization transforming from a 50-person to a 300-500 person organization

● Created the ISMS (Information Security Management System ISO-270***-****)

● Created hundreds of controls for successful SOC 2 Type II operations

● Built R&D organization with internal development teams to support SaaS operations supporting 1000s of users.

● Managed a 130 M$ portfolio of 210 Business Rules and BPM consultants.

● Created IBM’s Process X-Factory solution set used in the Strategy & Transformation group

● Managed multi-billion dollar budget and over 600 employees with co-CIO

● Created and managed internal development factory transitioning to an agile SDLC

2001 – 2008

● Part of an initial 4-person team to create what is now Pega’s main application suite.

● As Product Manager worked with executive leadership to create a then unique model-based-architecture, low/no-code, solution for the Business Process Management market.

● Managed industry analysts Gartner and Forrester resulting in leadership positions in both groups.

● Managed the feature and capability backlog for the development of the PegaRULES Process Commander suite.

● Marshaled POC products written in VB and C++ to Java and JEE

● Removed proprietary scripting technology by porting to the open Java stack (e.g., JSP custom tags)

● Designed multi-engined business rules management solution

● Represented Pega at OMG Technology Board. Co-authored BRML and BPMN specifications.

● Created initial pre-sales team and all technical marketing for this group.

● Implemented the largest scaling solution to ever tested at IBMs testing facility in Waltham, MA. It set the bar to beat for transactions per second at 10s of thousands of users.

1989-1990

● FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array) for network communications for ARDU

(Air Reference Data Unit) sensors for Boeing 777 (and later 787).

● Satellite embedded network communications using PLAs and then new FPGAs Bell Northern Research (BNR) — Design Engineer

1986 – 1989

● Designed and manufactured PC board for video phones.

● Designed and manufactured ASIC chips for embedded PBX environments

● Wrote dozens of utilities for engineers on mainframes until the HDLC team snagged me.

● Created design-rule checking and auto-layout tools (these were my first

“rules engines”).

● Created cell synthesization tools for ASIC Development leveraging C++ and VHDL.

Northern Telecom — Design Engineer

1984 – 1986

● Redesigned numerous computing devices to pass FCC Part 15 rules enabling them to be encased in plastic (vs. the dominance of metal computing devices).

● Found a design flaw in Hitachi's DRAM chip. This brought me to an extended Japan tour teaching sense amplifier balancing to Hitachi’s engineers.

● Created numerous mainframe applications in C for engineering, reliability, and test.
